I realised the other day that it's payback day on giffgaff, so I rushed to the website to add my 4G goodybag tonight and it worked!

As you can see in this pic giffgaff is the operator and I checked that I was on LTE/WCDMA/GSM. I don't get 4G here yet, it seems 3G hasn't reached most of my house yet, it also seems EDGE hasn't reached most of my house yet so I tested GPRS.

Speedtest!

I'm off to a 4G area in a week, so I'll report back on 4G when I get to test it... finally! Has anyone else tested giffgaff 4G yet?

Looking good!!

Although with speeds like that, there's always the risk that you won't really notice much difference on 4G.

Haha O2 shows once again it's not a network for data.

Before Wavejock steps in and says anything, I'd like to point out that I believe that screen grab was perhaps a bit unfair and that I've had speeds far greater than that.

I've managed to get 0.04Mbps at times.

I would like to add a real sense of balance to the debate and say that I once got 10Mbps on Giffgaff.

However, it was only for about 10 seconds before I was out of range of the 3G mast and was promptly dumped back onto GPRS for the duration. "Seamless" coverage at its best.

Jon you are absolutely right, it is unfair to do a single speedtest. So in the interests of fairness I just ran another and I got double the speeds of the first time.

O2 have DC-HSPA+ in some cities and I've been able to get over 25Mbps on a couple of 3G masts. Outside of a city I haven't seen any DC-HSPA+ masts.

Data on 2G GPRS is pretty much unusable anyway hence my joke in the post above. You need EDGE minimum to be able to do stuff productively.

Wow, with ping times like that you run the risk of the battery running out before the test even starts!

It's not much better on 3G. I made sure I had 5 full bars of 3G signal to test it fairly and this is what I got today when testing in a different town http://oi58.tinypic.com/2rpthg4.jpg The real test will be 4G, so we'll see what it's like next weekend when I'm in a 4G area and I can give it a go.

It's worth checking out the posting history and agenda of commentators before making any assumption about giffgaff's 4G coverage and performance. In my home area giffgaff has city wide coverage and delivers decent speeds of over 20Mbps download and similar if not better uploads. O2 4G is the parent network and they have been rolling out 4G in major cities and not just with a token number of sites to say they are present in a market. Root Metrics have been testing lots of areas so far in 2014 and the coverage and performance landscape has changed dramatically with 4G so it's worth checking out the most recent survey results. O2's lower frequency 800MHz 4G has the potential to reach further and penetrate buildings far better than EE or 3's 1800MHz offerings.

Proof of the pudding is in the eating and the feast is available at: http://www.rootmetrics.com/uk/

Well.... That can be said about you as well.

I've seen good speeds in some areas and bad speeds in others. This applies to all networks. You can't say that just because you get good speeds means O2 must be good. Just like how I can't say that because I get great speeds on Three then Three is great for everyone.

O2's lower frequency 800MHz 4G has the potential to reach further and penetrate buildings far better than EE or 3's 1800MHz offerings.
Errr, This sounds like PR talk. FIrst of all Three, EE and Vodafone have 800Mhz as well. Secondly EE have far more coverage than O2. Thirdly EE, Three and Vodafone have more spectrum than O2 + EE and Vodafone have 2600Mhz as well which will allow for faster 4G LTE Advanced in the future. EE already have a double speed product due to the amount of spectrum being used. Something that O2 can't do.

I am only testing and reporting my experience, I got the 4G goodybag to try it when I'm in a 4G area. I thought I'd first test in my own area (non 4G). No matter the results I will post next weekend, if it's 50Mb/s down and it's the best performance ever it'll be posted.

Sorry if posting my real experience testing in different locations offends some because it's not what they want to hear!

I'm not afraid to admit when I'm wrong, or to criticise Three where I think it's due.

Hope you've learnt your lesson.

Next time don't post such offensive speedtests.

You forgot the obligatory LTE indicator to show the seamless universal coverage that only the O2 network provides..

If anyone had posted a similarly doctored speed test image about 3 I have no doubt that the small band of regulars who defend that network would have put all their efforts into discrediting the post and the person who made it, comical or not.

Of course I recognise this is supposed to be humorous but at the same time it is classic disinformation and an attempt to undermine the giffgaff business and that has been apparent for a long time on this board.

Whilst comedy is always welcome the deliberate misrepresentation of network speed results using doctored images makes one question what the agenda is with some.

I did laugh for a moment but when I thought about the effort to post such disinformation my amusement turned to suspicion re the motive. I keep certain individuals on 'ignore' due to constant stalking and torment ( they will post directly after this as they always do, it's a very regular series of expected responses by the usual individuals) but I am sure some excuse will be forthcoming and how that explains things will be up to the judgement of those reading it.

.
..or they would have laughed like Jabbamk's Root Metrics cash to EE animated gif. I don't think anyone got upset over that.

The effort involved was 2 minutes in Microsoft Paint. Disinformation? nobody would take that as a real speedtest, they would have to be an idiot!

I can assure you that aside from the joke one, all the others were real, proof http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/a/850526205

Some honesty.... but it confirms speed test image doctoring and that is at best questionable and at worst very suspicious.

Why is necessary to attempt to constantly discredit networks and MVNOs that provide a good standard of reliable service to 1000's of customers across the UK?

I have 'ignore' on so I will let others respond to the attempts to explain the very questionable highlighted behaviour.

You seem to have forgotten all these images I posted before. As you can see there is no agenda? Or do you think I'm attempting to discredit Three as well?

Your argument is flawed wavejock. No one is attempting to discredit any network. It's just a joke post. I can make fun of all networks and it's not because I have an agenda, it's because it's a joke.

I have 'ignore' on so I will let others respond to the attempts to explain the very questionable highlighted behaviour.
Good edit there. But you've been proved wrong... again.
