I know John Lewis offer two year warranties - I think they might even be offering three years on some products just now.

But I've always thought a two year warranty was a good deal on something rather than a one year warranty somehow being substandard.

Yes they are offering 3 year warranties on Apple, products. I've just bought an iPad Air from them with the 3 year warranty.

Yes as far as I know most companies only give you a 1 year warranty, which is standard. Samsung are an exception in my mind.

I'd say that the Apple 1 year warranty is a bit better than most because if you have a problem you can take it to the apple store and they will swap it out for a new device if they can't fix it on the spot.

For most other companies they would want to send it away for repair. However Samsung are getting better, now that they have opened up their experience stores. My OH took his old S3 to the flagship store because it had a problem with the charging port. They did send it away but it was fixed and ready to collect within 2 days.

I've only had good experiences with Apple with faults - I had an LCD panel on a 27" iMac replaced free of charge that was over a year out of warranty.

Also had problems with a MBP - think the issue was to do with the problematic nVidia graphics cards @2008. They couldn't decide if it was the display or the logic board, so replaced both. The new display had a faulty 1 px vertical line. They could have replaced the display again, but swapped it in store for a new one. At the time the new one was the unibody design, so did quite well on that one!

As you say, being able to take stuff into a store that they will look at free of charge is a pretty good service.

They always have. But they got a kick in the arse a few years back for failing to tell people that. They led people in the EU to believe it was only a 1 year warranty and pushing many into buying the apple care thing instead.

I'm pretty sure they don't

The italians gave them a kicking over this there but there is no 2 year warranty here, certainly not at the level of say samsung, sony 2 year warranty.

I did not say apple are not required to offer a 2 year warranty

They offer what they are legally required to by the EU.

Oh weren't you it seemed that way, so what are you saying when you commented in relation to Sony, Samsung offering two year warranties on their devices?

What are they legally required to offer then, or as you seem to know what do they offer?

Samsung and Sony (and anyone else) offer the same as apple. They have no option as they are legally obliged to do so.

Apple offer an enhanced 1st year cover. Do not know if Samsung offer an enhanced warranty but it wasn't evident when they fixed my phone.

Hey kidspud, you failed to mention those new recent unenhancements in the Apple warranty. Maybe you could explain what this enhancement currently is?

Personally I'd include the warranty in 'specification'. It is another thing AWOL in media reviews.

I made a warranty claim for both my iPad and my s3 mini.

I walked out of the store with one having been replaced with no hesitation, and the other one took 8 days. I'll let you guess which was which.
