that is drivel.

honestly you would say up was down if it benefited apple.

the entire production run has been identified as being prone to this fault. the entire production run has a design fault. normal companies would recall the entire run and offer a repair for all those affected. apple only recall those affected.

but it is a recall. though it's only semantics. recall or not apple dropped the ball. there are x number of people with faulty handsets but they will only fix it for you when your phone stops working. because apple cares.

It happens all the time. When I worked administrating warranty repairs at a garage a manufacturer identified that some vehicles in an affected range could have issues with a squeaking clutch. They didn't recall the vehicles and didn't even make any form of public statement or contact with affected vehicle owners. However anyone with an vehicle in an affected VIN range who complained of an issue with the clutch would have it repaired regardless of if the vehicle was still in warranty.

That wasn't a recall and neither is this!

Its not semantics at all.

They're not recalling an entire batch, so its not a recall.

So Apple are only fixing phones that stop working, and not taking any action for phones that are working?

Remind me why not replacing phones that are not broken is a problem.

When you say "normal companies" what you really mean is companies whose products pose a significant health and safety risk and don't want to get their asses sued off.

In such cases, Apple would do a recall, just like anyone else.
