Number display error of Skype
Up until now I have been using Skype to chat and calling my aunt from UK to India, but when I decided to purchase credits to call her on cell phone, she doesn't pick up because she says it appears as a strange number, and it changed each time I call. Is there anyone has encountered this problem?

Not used Skype much these days but I think there is a setting in Skype, or there used to be, that you can enter what number is displayed on the receiving end. From memory you have to confirm the number belongs to you so you can’t scam someone else’s number.
Like I said not used it much lately so not sure if this still applies and whether it works when calling international. |

This thread has prompted me into going into my Skype account and checking this out and I’ve found my caller ID is linked to a phone I no longer use so just changed it.
If you have already set caller ID and the problem is with displaying ID on international calls I’m afraid I can’t help however if you have not set the ID this can be found on your Skype home page under Manage Features > Caller ID and I’ve just updated mine for which they send a SMS verification code that you enter on your account page then it takes 24 hours to become active. BTW, welcome to DigitalSpy.

@Skip Tracer: yes, i did set the caller ID....
and it happens both on calling and sending sms as my attempt to some friends to use up all of the credits. so if you don't use Skype now, what do you use then? p/s: thankx for your warm welcoming. |

Generally I just use a 3 network 3-2-1 PAYG sim for how much I phone and text but I do have a Sipgate account for calling in my case 087 numbers as they have no minimum charges and I also get free 0800 number from my mobile and one other advantage is that my OH can call my mobile from home for free as I have free calls to landline numbers and the phone networks see a Sipgate number as a bog standard landline telephone number. There is an Android app that runs Sipgate on your mobile and this has run for me in the background on my mobile and uses a very small amount of data i.e. a few Kb per hour when idol and about 1 Mb per minute while making or receiving a call and another plus is it works over Wifi too from any location that Wifi is available. Calls are paid for up front on a PAYG basis and you select a local UK area code and number and anybody calling you from anywhere in the World simply see’s a UK number. No monthly charges for the number and no set up charges so nothing to lose. Sipgate has caller identification too but can be turn off in your account when required but again I don’t know about internationally as I don’t make overseas calls from the UK very often. Might be worth checking them out as they also do very cheap international calling. http://www.sipgate.co.uk/user/ |
