CS: Sophie and Maddie's relationship.
Apart from the obvious, what exactly is keeping Sophie and Maddie together? All they seem to do is scream at each other.
Watching them last night got me thinking about their relationship. It's still quite new but we hardly see any affection between them. Is Sophie that desperate for a girlfriend and Maddie that desperate for a bath/decent meal? ![]()

Sorfer is undoubtedly one but gets away with it. |

Yes, every scene between them is a quarrel. Sophie moans about something, Maddeh protests, one shouts louder than the other -- at least this way Sophie has met her match. Then Sophie, with her forlorn eyes says "I don't want to argue with you Maddeh", and it's not before long that Maddeh asks her to "take me to bed". Rinse and repeat.
Sophie is oblivious to Maddeh's mucky ways and makes out that she's a good person and wants to reform the bint. More like you're sex starved, and just want a quick fumble. Corrie's become a crummy version of Byker Grove/Grange Hill with these two. |

One has a hankering for home-cooked Shepherd's Pie, the other will resort to any means necessary, fair or foul, to get her fish pie.
I'm assuming everyone will know which is which from the above. |

Agreed Lynchpin. Most couples get to have a honeymoon period of at least 3 eps before it all goes pear-shaped. Maddeh and Sawpheh seem to have despised each other since day one. Can only assume the sex is amazing.

I hate the way they portray Sophie as a lesbian, in coming out storylines they always go through a rough period of acceptance and then sink into a relationship. Sophie on the other hand has a relationship every two years, makes no attempt to ever go out or date any unless they come with a catch - they're her best friend, her physio or a hobo. It's just annoying because as much as I despise the character, it's just always the sans saga just a different catch.

That's true Ben. Sophie never goes out like most teenagers her age, straight or gay. In fact she never ventures further than Roy's Rolls anymore. The shelter is all but forgotten now and apart from her little sleeping rough adventure she is practically glued to the cobbles again.
The Corrie writers are very limited. They haven't created any friendships groups who actually do anything. In this respect, EE is much better. In fact trhere's never anything happening on the street apart from whatever scene we're seeing. The might as well have some tumbleweed blowing along the street. |

People make good points. Having come out, the obvious thing for Sophie to do, between random meetings with girls-who-turn-out-to-be-gay, would be to join a group or go to gay cafes and clubs. She'd at least have some gay/lesbian friends, but we've never seen her so much as have a chat with Sean or Todd.
We know she's not got 'issues' about being gay so why so straight-acting? Do they think there'd be uproar among the viewing public? |

BIB That's the way of Corrie for Sophie and Maddie and a lot of their characters. Michelle springs to mind as one of the worst. Boring, lazy writing IMO.
Like so many of the others. Where does Katie ever go? She mostly mixes with her family. Or Chesney and Sinead? They mix with Fiz, Kirk and Beth. Steph mixes with her brother and with a few of the younger members of the cast occasionally. Even Tina who's bit older only goes to work, shags Peter or meets him in the ginnel. The Corrie writers are very limited. They haven't created any friendships groups who actually do anything. In this respect, EE is much better. ![]() ![]() ![]()

Sawphie is a whiny brat -- even Rosie was more mature at her age than this 'Reborn' Christian. |

She waits for a female, who just happens to be gay, to fall into her lap. She doesn't go out and hope to meet someone socially. Each time she has come into contact with a female who doesn't live on the street they, coincidentally, happen to be gay as well. In Jenna's case she almost bullied her into becoming her girlfriend and therefore Jenna ended up having to give up her career. With Maddie, she was a troubled case who was mouthy, lippy and had robbed from and insulted her mum and yet Sophie still kept stalking her until she caved in. |

I got an inkling on Monday night that Maddy was starting to see what she could lose if she doesn't act differently.

And why has Jenna never decided to embrace her sexuality? She's just been some virginal extra since Sophie dumped her. It just seems like she's there to cover shifts and mag at Lloyd. I find it hard to believe she can't do any better than that job too.
As for the other points about Sophie not going out with gay bars and pubs and meeting up with other likeminded girls. .That is true of most of the other characters as well. Also with Sophie being a Christian she is not going to sleep around so that limits what the writers can do. For me what they need to do is find a way for Sophie to lose her faith. That would open up more avenues for the character. |

I suspect Jenna fancies her old fella Lloyd.
She's far too interested in poking her nose into his love life, and I noticed her admiring his rubbish goatee the other night. She probably pretends to like his awful Motown records too. |

I expect the next few episodes we will find out more about Maddie and her brother. My feeling is that we will find out that Maddie's mother had some kind of breakdown and it was Maddie who was looking after her brother. At some point social services got involved and took her brother into care and shunted Maddie into the hostel from hell. That is probably why Maddie is so angry. |

Sophie did not dump Jenna it was the other way round.

That would open up more avenues for the character. And going to gay bars doesn't make you some sort of strumpet or imply that you are going to sleep around. They have dating sites and groups for just about everything these days and you're telling me there's not one for gay Christians? (However much of a contradiction some might find it) I'm not saying Sawfeh should work her way through the women of Canal Street but she could at least have some like minded friends. Besides she's hardly the most Christian woman there is, if a man had pursued Jenna in the way she had, people would be screaming sexual harassment. |
