Do we see enough of it?

With regards to EE:

Sex, yes (well, they show what they can)

Drugs, I guess....I know drugs probably won't be very prevalent in an area as small as Walford but I wouldn't object to another drug-related storyline or two

Affection....this is the one we don't see enough of. The Carters are probably the most affectionate family on there.

ED

Sex: not enough for my tastes

Drug: no actually

Passion: hmmm, with certain characters yes. Others not so much but that's normal.

affection: Yes, most definitely. They get that spot on.

ETA: Drugs wasn't an option.

"Sexy" scenes in soaps are always cringeworthy, it's like the person writing them has never actually had sex before. If anything they should do them less often.

Personally I dont think there is enough passion with in couples in soapland, I want couples where you believe they are madly in love and cant even breath without each other, who look at eachother from the otherside of the room and you know if they dont rip off eachothers clothes soon they are going to burst, and well I wont go too graphic

Oh wow, drugs WASN'T an option. I was a walking zombie last night.

Passion - it balances out because we get tons from some (often TOO much) and hardly any from others.

EastEnders definitely lacks affection, even between friends. Everyone just seems to stomp around like a bear with a sore head. I agree with maurice, the Carters are the most affectionate family we've seen in a long while. They are seem like a proper family. I think Corrie does friendship and affection better, even if it is a bit cringe at times. Hollyoaks is too much sex, frankly. If they're not having sex, they're half-naked and ready for it. It's basically soft porn by soap standards.

I agree that all-round we could do with more genuine affection between lovers and friends in soaps. Sex is ok, but it's a soap, not a drama, so we're never going to see THAT much.

As for drugs, they seem to be rife in Hollyoaks' quintessential little village for some reason, but not in East London on EastEnders. Go figure! Corrie doesn't really do drugs that often but it's not really needed.

If we're talking about Peter Barlow and flipping Tina, then I'd say we got FAR too much. I wanted to claw my eyes out.

But there's a few couples light up the screen, and if they're convincing, then sure, go for it. I don't believe in a couple unless they show affection and desire convincingly. Doesn't need to be explicit - might just be the way they look at each other sometimes.

Phil rolling off Sharon. Shudder.

I don't even watch EE but saw that on Charlie Brookers' screen wipe. I'm still traumatised.

Sex is always poorly done in soap. It's best left unseen IMO. Affection is often lacking I think but if the actors have good chemistry it can come across. I only really watch Neighbours now and Karl and Susan show a lot of affection towards each other.
