I dropped my HTC wildfire s the other day, so im thinking of a Moto G, My budget is under £150, and i prefer android over windows.
Is this my best option for money?

Answering your question, no the Moto G is not the best budget phone, but for your money and requirements yes it seems to be. Pretty good specs for the price

Thanks for that, yes i looked around and the other alternatives were a lumia and an huawei, but the moto g is running kitkat, so it seems the better option.

thanks again

In my opinion it is, with the only weakness being an average camera (and storage space if you need to store lots of content). The lack of 4G will be addressed later this year.

Regular updates and excellent battery life are real benefits in my opinion.

Of course it is. Nothing comes remotely close in the budget category.

i just bought the 16gb version unlocked from Tesco direct £138, picking it up either tomorrow or Friday.

I have no real interest in 4g at the moment anyway, 3g plays video stuff just fine right now, and i have 100mb at home to download stuff.

Agreed 100%.

Currently it is one of the best all round budget phones when comparing the spec and price against other phones in that price range. Things may change as other makes get serious about competing with the Moto G.

No bloat, just stock Android KitKat and good battery life and performance. Not much comes close at that price (for the time being of course)

The 4G version due sometime should be an interesting budget phone..

Name a better one for the same price which is out right now.

you can class the lumia 920 as a budget price now under £140.

Looking at the specs, it does seem a decent phone but that prince isn't standard, not that I can see.

also the HTC 8X is widely available at a lower price point of around £150.

But for sure the moto g is the best budget phone you can buy if you're after an Android handset, its specs will run Android without problems.

I've just been invited to a Motorola launch event on May 13th. Could this include the Moto G successor?

Thing is, if a new version is released, I'd still recommend the current one if the price is cut further. If you don't need 4G, the current one is fine.

It's really unfair to compare the Moto G to the Lumia, a former flagship. One is meant to be a cheap Android smartphone, and for the price it is brilliant (it has a HD screen, which cheap smartphones tend not to have), the other one was a high end model when it was released.

I understand that if you can find the Lumia for under £150 then it might be a better choice than the Moto G, but you have to find it at that price.

I saw an S3 for £200 on eBay, if the OP is interested. It is over £150, but that price is excellent for the phone you'd be getting.

Anyway, the Moto G is certainly way better than the HTC Wildfire S.

Is this about the third thread where someone is asking for a cheap, but decent, smartphone and stating that they'd prefer Android?

Every time it seems to end up with recommendations to buy cheap Lumia phones (either the very outdated 520, or other newer models that didn't sell and are being heavily discounted).

Perhaps when someone asks for the best value Windows Phone, but the OP did say from the outset that they preferred Android over Windows!

Yeah I don't know why people always keep mentioning those reductive Windows Phone devices, particularly when the OP clearly stated they want Android.

But I would suggest the Moto G as well. It's by far the best in its class for the price. The price might fall even more with the follow up (Moto E?) due to be launched soon.

Next time check how Windows Phone came into the conversation. No one was recommending it.

I meant a better android phone for the same price as the Moto G. As far as I can see, there isn't any.

Agree with the Moto G, but if the OP can raise their budget to £299, the Nexus 5 will get you a high-end Android phone with future-proof updates for the next few years direct from Google. For the quality and feature set of the device, it's easily worth the extra money.

Well if they are willing to raise their budget then the OnePlus One will probably be an even better bet (once it is readily available) than the Nexus 5 as it comes in at £229 for the 16GB model, or the 64GB model will be a mere £40 extra at £269.

It is in limited availability initially as they ramp up production so they are doing an invitation-based model to begin with. By all accounts it ought to really shake up the mid tier market for Androids as it is essentially a premium-spec phone that undercuts the already very good value Nexus 5.

For a strictly budget Android phone though, the Moto G is very hard to beat at the moment - just got one for my mum and liked it so much I ordered one for myself just to test the water with Android a bit (and I've had every iPhone since the first one).

In its price bracket the Moto G blows everything else out of the water.

The OnePlus One looks very impressive, but I think what makes the Moto G such good value is that, unless you want to play the most powerful games, the performance from Snapdragon 400 is more than ample.

There's no lagging and it's a very smooth experience - precisely what most other devices at that price point usually aren't.

The reason to stump up a bit more for the OnePlus One wouldn't be for a better day to day experience, but for a better screen, camera, or 4G (but it doesn't support 800MHz, so not much use for Vodafone or O2's 4G service, or indeed when EE and Three roll out 800MHz).

It's great to have some good choices now though - and when Motorola launches its next device(s) it seems people on limited budgets, or simply not wanting to pay hundreds for what they see more as a tool, will have lots of options.

I hope this might one day force all of the dross off the market, but sadly I doubt it as some retailers are perfectly happy to import crap for sub-$50 dollars and flog it on at £100 (mostly tablets I am referring to here, mind).

At least not running Android.

The Lumia 625 is arguably a fairly direct competitor, with a better camera, a smoother interface and expandable memory.

But for whatever reason, the OP doesn't want WP - I used to be dead set against it until I had to configure a 625 for my ex's daughter, it surprised me as to how good it was to use.

I like the wording on the invite -
