Although it's good to hear Martin being discussed, why hasn't he been over to offer support & condolences to his cousin Ian during his difficult hour.

He obviously doesn't live all that far away if Sonia can keep calling over, and Ian supported Martin when Pauline, Arthur & Mark died - with the Beales & Fowlers once being so close knit, it's a pity nothing has been written into the script - even if Ian mentions that "Martin called by over the weekend" - at least Michelle got a brief mention & even the Irish relation Maggie...nothing from Kenny though!

The PTB should have just brought Sonia back as split from him. It's not realistic that he's never seen.

They've basically shot themselves in the foot by keeping Sonia and Martin together off screen. Martin lives close to Walford but can't attend the funeral of his own cousin, or even visit Ian to pay his condolences?

Clever writing could indicate that Martin has been to at least see Ian, they wouldn't have to even show him on screen!!

It infuriates the shit out of me!!!

This x 100. Just a passing "Martin dropped by" type comment from Ian wouldn't go amiss. Maybe Martin pays the Butchers a visit off-screen or something, and repercussions of such an event could be shown on-screen. The whole "Martin's out with his mates all the time and never, ever bothers doing anything else" routine is getting boring.

Well he won't want to go to Lucy's funeral as he's probably out with his mates that day. Roll eyes.

I too think it could be easily dropped into a passing conversation an would welcome such a discussion taking ace as it adds realism however I wonder how that would fit in with the idea that Martin is supposed to be neglecting Sonia pushing her into the arms of Tina the more he ignores her - would he just drop by to see Ian then leave? As we are supposed to believe Martin is being selfish and doin everything to make Sonia revert back to her lesbian days

Yeah he's only following in his sisters footsteps after all. Michelle would be so proud of him!

I really don't get why they put Martin and Sonia back together offscreen, hadn't they split up the last time Sonia appeared?

Would have made much more sense to have had Sonia as a single Mum and Martin out of the picture.

Its so we will sympathize with Sonia's Sapphic Surprise. It's not contrived at all. No sir. Not at all.

it is a difficult one when the actors who originally played the characters dont want to return (presuming that Susan Tully and James Alexandrou are not interested) you either write the story around their none appearance or recast, and recasts don't always work, however in this case I don't understand why they have written Sonia and Martin as still being together, it wouldn't be any great shock to hear that they have split up again and they could have had Martin join Michelle in America

James has said he is open to a return just not yet. I wonder if DTC was desperately trying to get him back prior to the Sonia storyline starting and it all fell through.

Maximum respect to him for his current role in Macbeth. Good to see him develop as an actor.

I'm sure we are heading for an 'exit' storyline for him so that Sonia can continue

Or they could have had Martin visit Ian off screen with somebody mentioning he's been round. I know it's not as good but at least it makes it more realistic.
