Hi I've got BT infinity at 80/20, its unbelievable how fast it is coming from 8/1 adsl, in the past month I've had it I've downloaded and uploaded about 5tb.
Now I'm struggling to come up with things to do with all the speed can anyone think of something? ☺

Yes - let me use it! I'm lucky to get 2mb speed on a good day, which is still better than my mate who gets not even half a meg!

Haha if I could I would mate, slow broadband sucks, going from ADSL to fibre feels like going from dial up to broadband!
I live in the countryside and had to do so much campaigning to get BT and the local council to upgrade us and it paid off because the whole of the county is now being upgraded, you should look in to your local councils plans for fibre.
Keep annoying BT and eventually they'll get it installed! ☺

Infinity certainly does open the doors wide for what you can download. I just sat there with a big grin upon seeing the massive jump in speed compared to my pevious ADSL2 connection. It's crazy when it goes at full pelt. Episodes don't need much patience to download now when your connection's maxed out.

It is pretty amazing, its not just downloading either, The uploading is amazing! I run my Plex server to 6 friends all at once, I have my own online radio station, we have 4 computers that all backup online in realtime and this can all be happening at once and I can still upload a huge HD video to YouTube in minutes ☺
I've also noticed much lower ping and package drops are basically none existent!

Which reminds me, I'll have to start making some videos and uploading them to YouTube. I only created a YouTube account so I could comment on videos, but I might as well start making videos and then uploading them.

That's nothing,
Even on an ADSL2+ 10MB LAN connection (1.2MB/s download speed) you can get about 4GB per 20 mins = 12GB an hour.
24hrs = 288GB
7 Days = approx 2TB
30 Days = approx 8.9TB

We were promised infinity was just aroind the corner back in 2012. And here we are without it. It's strange because we are one of only a few streets where it it is not yet live.

If we were still with last gen consoles. I could live without it. But downloading a 50gb digital download on 7mb can take ages.

Says my average monthly usage is 1TB. I too am enjoying the 76Mbit Infinity buzz after having a download speed of 420k for the past several years.

I agree my Infinity 2 has been pretty good since install and the upload speeds on FTTC are excellent.

Except that if everyone does that, massive contention issues will come into play and everyone will (relatively speaking) grind to a halt.

People such as the O/P can only get away with it because very few people do it. I just use my full 80/20 data capacity occasionally, mainly benefitting from the lightning fast speeds in short bursts, as and when I need then rather than maxing everything out continuously "because I can" as some people seem to, just like the old adsl days. 300GB a month max. is my typical usage so less than 5% of capacity and that kind of figure is what the system is built around.

I totally agree my fiend, I average about 120GB a month on a 10MB LAN
My post was to illustrate that you can easily do 8TB even on a 10MB connection (assuming 24/7 at full bandwith for 30 days solid)

Of course if everyone did this it would bastardize the Network and end up in higher contention ratios and slower speeds for everyone,
not to mention the fact high bandwidth users would all be (routed) grouped on the same pipes to fight it out for bandwidth
1GB/s port / 100 users = 1MB/s average each :O

60 (seconds) x 1.2MBs = 72 megabytes.
20 (minutes) x 72 megabytes = 1.4GBs.
3 (hour) x 1.4GBs = 4.2GBs.
24 (day) x 4.2GBs = 100.8GBs.
7 (week) x 100.8GBs = 705.8GBs
4 (month) x 705.8GBs = 2.75TBs

If you're talking about a 10Mbit ADSL2 connection, this is what you'll be able to download in the times mentioned.

I honestly don't know how some can reach even near the 1TB mark. I'd call a HEAVY download month about 4-500GBs. If I started downloading, what is for me, heavy, then I'd probably hit around 2-300GBs.

Infinity.............I said it before and i'll say it again it's an absolute godsend (Can't believe i've had it almost a year already) I was always struggling on 2MB (which roughly was about 220/230K) for download and about maybe 60 up) The things i've been able to do since I got it installed..........WOW! I could never go back to the old ADSL now

Has anyone ever had BT contact them,offering an upgrade to infinity, gratis? No exra monthly cost, or extend contract. A friend of mine told me he had got it this way and, when I was in contact with BT re the phone, I asked about it, and was told they don't do this.
Concentrating on infinity, my current BT broadband isn't slow but, as others have commented, waiting for a page to change can be hell if it is. I was told that, for an extra £7 per month, I can have infinity and unlimited broadband. The reason I downgraded from unlimited, was because I simply wasn't using the amount for which I was paying. I watch quite a bit of tv/you tube on my laptop, but don't download too much. I do surf the web a lot, online banking, emails, etc, basic stuff really. I know it is available in my area. If my bb isn't slow atm, would I see so much difference with infinity, to make it worth that extra monthly surplus? I use my work system for my business, so that isn't a consideration.

You might also consider "Infinity Extra" which BT are currently promoting - at least for new users. It is 38Mb service with a 40Gb/month limit. It's full monthly price is £18 which is £5 cheaper than the equivalent Unlimited offering.

It is quite crazy the speed that Infinity gives when the sender is maxing out your download speed.

The reason i updated to who i am with now is because I could not get more than 3Mb/s on ADSL, ok tell a lie, i could if I mucked around with the SNR, but then it would be ok for a couple of hours and then disconnect

Having the speed i got now, while it is not fibre speed, allows me to do more things at a time. so I know where you are coming from. Not sure if i would ever say I would never go back to ADSL, if I moved somewhere that had a good ADSL speed then I may do.

My mate get 16Mb/s on his ADSL, which is pretty good, so if i lived here he lived, I would think about going back to ADSL.

Well after being told infinity was just around the corner over 2 years ago. It seems we may not have it at all now. A few hundred metres either side of us are all infinty enabled. Yet our cabinet seems to not be commercially viable

Indeed so even on 24/7 you only manage about half of what the OP used.

I'm also impressed about 1.2MB/s on a 10Mb connection, I'm on 18Mb and only get 1.6 - 1.8MB/s with Sky.
