Why are they treating Rita Ora like a superstar?
Just looking at her discography and it has to be one of the most unimpressive ones I've ever seen considering she gets so much media attention.
Trashy Terry Richardson photoshoots, US promo everywhere, over 2 million Instagram followers, yet she hasn't had a SINGLE hit in the US? For me, she just doesn't match the hype. I even created a thread saying I liked I Will Never Let You Down, it's a catchy song, but even after a lot of US promo it's not in the top 300 on US iTunes. She has a trashy reputation too, various people in the industry. Even Jade Ewen admitted she's slept her way to the middle and she went to the same school as her and shared a record label with her for a bit. Rita Whora was even trending on Twitter I just don't get it to be honest, trying to make out as though she's in the same lane as Rihanna, when Rihanna has had global hit after hit after hit. |

She's going to equal the record for most UK No.1s by a British female so she's obviously going in the right direction. I do think that this whole attempt to make her the next big thing is rather forced though. I mean, does she really have much of a fan base?

I do find it strange, the way she's spoken about and how overly-hyped she is, when I don't know anyone who likes her music. I know I'm only going by my own experience, but to know no-one who likes an artist, not even a little bit, is unusual to me.

Being in a "relationship" with Calvin Harris helps a bit i think.

She is probably the most overrated girl in music right now. Not only for the reasons in the OP but she also talks like she's been in the industry years and the music "she relates to" etc. I don't find her very credible or relateable as an artist, well not judging by her debut album, not impressed with the new single either but lots seem to be.
I think being signed to Jay-z's record label was a massive boost in itself, I'm just disappointed that her music (bar 'RIP') is basically dross. Isn't she meant to be 'bezzie mates' with Cara Delevinge and Rihanna? Sounds like this girl has mixed in all the right circles. |

I don't really get the hype. I think she comes across as a Poundland Rihanna to me. None of her songs have grabbed me. They're just very average.

I think she's more suited to background singing. I didn't know until recently that she sang the background vocals on Alexandra Burke's Hallelujah. Rita Ora is a good example of marketing over any real substance. As an artist I've always found her to be uncharismatic and completely average as a performer. |

I don't get it either, she's awful. They've spent so much money on her that they have to keep promoting, I guess.
I don't think that she's ever going to "happen" in all honesty |

Not a fan. Never come across anyone in a while who is so desperate to be a superstar than Ms Rita Ora. She's had number 1's, in a relationship with one of the most indemand (yet not very good imo) producers around and has bagged herself a supporting role in one of the most anticipated films of next year. She must have one hell of an agent or she is just lucky. She's pretty and she aint that bad live. But there's no wow factor. No originality. Nothing that makes you think "superstar". Radio 1 are so far up her bum at the moment, it's insane. Out of all the british females around, could they only bag Rita ora for Radio 1 big weekend and promote the hell out of her for it.

i really like 'i will never let you down'.
but i find the girl herself, extremely bland, i remember her on Alan Carr and i think a couple of the spice girls were sat alongside her and sort of looked at her like 'omg you are so dull' lol, |

How long can she still be finding her way? Shes with jay z label and gets so much press, hasnt had a hit in usa at all!!
She does seem nice and performs well live, but shes so generic. Theres nothing different about her. Jessie j has her own style as do british artists like adele, florence, ed sheeran etc |

Rita's music isn't all that deserving of all the hype it gets in my opinion. There are many superior artists who don't get the attention Rita gets.

She was kind of the last in the line of Britsh Females that came out around 06-12. And when of you think of who else came out at that time or found success Amy, Lily, Corrine Bailey-Rae, Adele, Duffy, Florence, La Roux, Little Boots, Ellie, Marina, Jessie J then her you see just how lacking she is. All those others have a distinct sound personality and stand for something. They had fresh ideas that went on to influence others around the world. They write their own music and are in charge of their own image and really between them have produced some brilliant music.
Rita has none of that she is so indistinct and lacking anything credible and solid it's like they are forcing something that a) needs a lot of work and b) isn't happening. |

I like 'I Will Never Let You Down', shacking up with Calvin seems to have payed of for her, getting that song.
The Zac Efron stunt was clever, it got her a lot of press. I'm not overly fond of Rita, but i'd take her over Jessie (HETROSEXUAL) J anyday. |

That's another thing I don't get. Why was she even at the MTV movie awards? Never mind presenting with Jessica Alba! Just like why was she at the VMA's last year? She's had ZERO US success and is trotting up and down the red carpet of every big award show like she's someone of Rihanna/Gaga/Beyonce's level of fame.

This saddens me so much. Whatever you think of Mel C and Geri at least they actually stood for something. Rita Ora is just another Pixie Lott. She will be forgotten about in a few years.
I just find her so desperate and forced. They're manufactured popstars as much as anyone so let's not pretend they are significant artists or something. Pixie Lott, I get that comparison. Trying to be a jack of all trades and not having a sound of her own. I think Rita Ora has better songs than her though (even though lots are leftovers) and has bigger backing. Seems like there is a concerted effort to make her a star. Same thing with Jessie J, but they overexposed her far to much and now no one cares. I like her (Ora's) new single though and I think it'll be a summer hit. Now that she's a bit more established and has films etc. coming, there might be more of an attempt to get her a signature sound rather than the Rihanna knockoff stuff. Maybe she'll do a full album with Calvin Harris, which would probably be a big hit. |

Don't actually mind her singles but the forced stardom is irritating. |

Rita has not and will never do anything on that scale. So I don't think Rita has earned the right to take the title from Mel C and Geri for that very reason. |

I was actually thinking along the same lines the other day. I'm not mad on Rihanna but at least the stuff she does she "owns" and definitely has her own thing going on, but with Rita it's like the songs could just fade away and you'd still have her for a celebrity. If that makes sense.
People seem more interested in her as a person than her music. |

I don't get the hype over her either, she's an average singer who's made a few very average songs. I really don't understand her popularity.

LOL. So many bitter people in this thread.
When will people realise, the type of people you know in the music industry will get you places. Rita Ora has connections with the biggest people in the industry. That equals tons of exposure. Her brand is expanding. She's also going to be in the Fifty Shades of Grey movie. This girl is in a good place. The envy and jealousy in here is very funny. She's clearly doing something right. ![]() In the words of Rita: Wherever you are Please believe it I'mma take it all
