Hi all,

Got one of the new Sky + boxes with WIFI built in. Want to connect to my Roberts Sound 53. In terms of the Roberts End I have an Aux Selector, so that is easy enough to connect up, but which output do I need from the Sky box?

Thanks

Is your Sky box like this on the rear panel?

If so then looks like the only output you can use is the SCART. Easy enough if it isn't being used for anything else by using a SCART to phono plug adapter like this

http://www.amazon.co.uk/SCART-Adapte.../dp/B000JJ5FLG

and a 3.5mm stereo jack to two phono plug lead to connect to the Roberts unit.

If the Sky box is not like the above image then have a look to see if it has three phono sockets for Audio and Video Out. If so just plug the lead into the Audio L and R sockets.

??????

Sky never made a box with three phono's, it's an American style connection, not a European one.

The older boxes had just two phono's for audio out only, composite video was always only via SCART.

But as he's mentioned he has a WiFi box it's obviously a VERY new one, and won't have phono's, so he'll need the adaptor you mentioned above.

Many Thanks for the info, the Scart is free so I shall buy the adapter you mention.

Really?

Pages 89 onwards of this manual clearly show audio and video phonos.

http://storage.sky.com/prod/helpcent...User_Guide.pdf

And it is mentioned in the specs, so I assume it's not just for show....

There should be no reason why sound cannot be output from HDMI and SCART at same time. So you should be able to choose between HiFi and TV speakers at will. And of course plugging the Sky box into the HiFi will not affect sound from either the TV's built in tuner or any other device connected to the TV (eg a disk player) which will only come out of the TV speakers.

bought one of these http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B...?ie=UTF8&psc=1
and one of these http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B...?ie=UTF8&psc=1
(after mistakenly buying a 3.5 mm jack to 2 rca)

Everything connects up ok. Scart adapter switched to output and red and black cables into red and white inputs at both ends. However no sound is coming out of the Roberts.

Any ideas/advice welcome!

BIB - Don't understand how you are doing this. According to the online user guide for the Roberts Sound 53, it has a single 'Aux In' socket, so the 3.5 mm jack to 2 rca should be the correct cable to use.

Hi Mark,

Sorry I should have been said that connected to the aux I have an input selector like this http://www.amazon.co.uk/AV-Link-128-...s=aux+selector

And this has three sets of left and and right aux ports.

Presumably you have other devices plugged into the other two inputs on the switch. And presumably they work?

If so then the obvious first step is to plug one of the working devices into the input you have the Sky box connected to and make sure you can hear audio via that input. That will prove whether or not the switch is working correctly.

If the switch is OK then you need to work out why the Sky box SCART isn't working. Which may mean diving ito the configuration menus and seeing if there are any options for the SCART. It would not be beyond the realms of possibility that there is an ON-OFF option in there somewhere and it's set to OFF.

I'm not overly familiar with the latest generation Sky boxes but I wonder if there is a chance the volume control works on SCART but not HDMI and you have the volume set to zero?

Theres something telling myself that the scart out doesn't work if you have HDMI connected up ?

Can you tell us what tv you have as it might be easier getting sound from tv and whatever you are watching will automatically come out of it

Hello all,

I finally got the sky box working through the Roberts! I have moved accommodation, and being disabled needed the assistance of a friend to move and reconnect my stuff up. Turns out the aux switch was never plugged back into the Roberts!
