Three's One Plan, end of unlimited tethering on contract?

Hi,
I was reading the Three blog earlier, and it seemed to suggest that the One plan is no longer available on new three contracts and other plans are limited tethering to 2gb data. New contracts have 0800 calls free, I guess as an incentive. It seems that when my contract expires I either upgrade the contract, to get a new handset and lose unlimited tethering, or switch to the One Plan that is now a sim only plan with a 1 month rolling, or 12 month contract, and buy a handset.

Could someone who has recently taken a contract with three let me know if this is indeed the case. I use my hotspot tethering a lot with my surface pro on the go, etc., and don't want to lose it, so need to work out what I'm going to do when my contract ends. Maybe going the sim only route could be the way to go financially, don't know.

I am really happy with my Galaxy Note 2, but want to get the galaxy gear smartwatch, and that needs Android 4.3, and who knows when the Note 2 will be updated to 4.3, which is the only reason I would consider changing my handset.

Hi there,

I was on a SIM only deal with Three and enquired a while ago about the S5 in contract.

They said I could either have it for £41/month with 2gb tethering and when I asked about unlimited tethering they said they could do it for £47/month.

I've since got the S5 for £37/month but only have the 2gb tethering as not sure I'll use it much anyway.

Go SIM only. Not only do you retain the unlimited tethering benefits, it often works out cheaper than some of 3's pricey phone contracts.

Plus even if you cared about 0800 calls you'd get them free anyway by using a dial-through provider.

BIB: from next year they'll be free of charge even to those who haven't signed up to Three's new 2 year plans...

Best move I ever did getting off my HTC One X £39pm One Plan and moving to a £15pm One plan with a Nexus 5!

Much more flexibility.

Free for direct dial, yes. But for those of us who are savvy with these things they've been free (well, inclusive) for the last 15 years.

My brother is on an existing One Plan contract and is now seeing the message to buy an add-on for tethering. Have they changed the tethering terms mid-contract for existing customers?

Is this correct? Information on the Three website refers to all Pay Monthly contracts and says that plans with unlimited data are limited to a 2GB tethering allowance before an add-on needs to be purchased.

Yeah, he's been watching Netflix on tethering whilst waiting for his broadband to be installed at his new house. And now, presumbaly having used 2GB, he gets redirected to Three's website and prompted to buy an add-on.

On SIM-only plans, you still get truly unlimited tethering. But, if you're going to do it, do it now, because it'll be going away soon.

I got this a few months ago and turned out to be an error, and went away after a power cycle.

He's just phoned 3 to be told that a 'technical error' allowed him unlimited tethering from September to April, but this has now been rectified. I don't think is correct. He's on the One Plan. Shouldn't he retain his unlimited tethering until the end of his contract?

You sure he's on the one plan?

The One Plan still has unlimited tethering. Its the other plans where tethering caps are now being very very strictly enforced.

I've done over 3GB tethering so far since the beginning of the month so I don't think it's across all accounts.

I have the 12 month £15 sim only one plan.

Yeah, he's on the £42 a month One Plan. Sounds like someone in CS has got it wrong.

Forget what I said. Turns out he's on a package with unlimited data but not the One Plan. So yes, they're enforcing existing limits.
