I've got a Humax YouView recorder and want to archive the recordings onto DVD and/or computer.

Obviously, I can hook up the machine to my DVD recorder via the analogue outputs, but before embarking on this I wanted to see if anyone was aware of a way to get the recordings off in a digital format (which would be preferable).

The HDR-1000S is a satellite freesat+ unit and not a YouView unit?
If you do have a HDR-1000S then there is no current way to do what you want other than via the SD DVD route you mention.

Why have Humax/freesat made copying so difficult ?
Do all generic sat boxes also prevent such copying ?

If you can copy from generics it makes the prohibition a bit pointless.
There is a market for a smart generic box that cribs from the freesat EPG., & organises recordings.
After years of paying the licence fee I feel entitled to record if not for profit.
I occasionally find something that my adult children missed but I can't pass it on.
Also my 1.2 TB of recordings are lost if my Humax is broken & not repairable.
Otherwise the Humax HDR is excellent.

You can't digitally copy recorded programmes from a Sky box or Youview box either.

You can backup those files from the Humax to another hard disk, but they'll only play back on the particular box they were recorded on.

Not possible on a HDR1000/1010S (nor as I understand it on a Youview box).

SD digital programme encryption free export is possible on the following HD Humax boxes running standard firmware.

Satellite

Foxsat-HDR

Terrestrial

HDR FOX T2 and HDR2000T

Graham, I suppose you are hinting that, for example, the Foxsat-HDR on Raydon's firmware allows one to copy out.

You can copy all recordings on a bog standard Foxsat-HDR to a usb drive. HD recordings though are encrypted so will only play back on the Foxsat that recorded it (You can play back from the usb drive directly). Files larger than 4GB require the drive to be EXT2/3 formatted. I did say standard firmware.

The CF adds a lot more capability and allows recordings to be directly copied over a home network to a PC. there's a way round the HD encryption issue for all the above boxes. The Foxsat needs the CF but the Freeview+ boxes can use Raydons Foxy utility which persuades these to decrypt HD as well as SD on copying to usb.

I've read that you can from Sky boxes. Recordings from FTA channels (all Freesat channels are FTA) are stored without encryption. There are utilities that can transfer them to PC (e.g. ExPVR).

afaik you have to physically remove the HDD and connect it to a PC. There's no way to access it in situ.
