Dear All,

I was wondering if you could give me some help.

My Panasonic Viera TH-P42X30M plasma TV brought back from Dubai is not able to find any UK channels.
Does anyone have any ideas on possible solution please?

Maybe the TH range are not compatible in UK as I know here they sell TX models only.

I would be grateful for any pointers

Best advice is buy a UK HD Freeview+ pvr and connect it by hdmi to the TV. Unless the TV has a UK setup TV option after a reset then it's not likely to work with UK broadcast digital TV.

I think you will find that this TV has an analogue only tuner. Since digital switchover no analogue terrestrial channels are broadcast in the UK. Hence as already said it can only be used with an external digital tuner (STB or PVR). You can choose Freeview and/or (if you have a dish) Freesat or FTA satellite.

Thanks for the advice, I have a West Europe reset but not one specifically for UK. I will try the box.

Unfortunately Panasonic deliberately cripple their sets to only work in the country they were intended for, where as almost all other manufacturers make Pan-European models, which work anywhere in Europe - you simply select the country during install.

But as others have suggested, it's probably an analogue only set, use a Freeview box (or preferably a PVR) with it.

Thanks for the advice, I have just ordered a Humax HDR-2000T/500GB.
Hope it works and my Wife cheers-up as lack of East Enders is affecting her.
Wish me luck!

As long as the TV has a HDMI socket it should work just fine provided of course you have a suitable aerial.

You should be able to watch East Enders on your laptop/PC using iplayer if you have a broadband connection. You may also be able to connect your PC/laptop to the plasma.

are they crippled by hardware or software? is there a way around it if there is an engineers mode?

It's mostly a software problem. You might be able to load different software, but if the hardware does not support DTT you're stuffed.

Possibly both?, and I've not heard of any engineer mode method of changing it.
