Can I buy HD movies without being tied to a service or device?

If I use iTunes I need an apple device, if I buy from sky I need to have. Sky box, google play... Android...
Is there a service out there, where I can buy a movie or TV show, in HD, maybe keep it in the cloud, and play on any device I choose?

Will there ever Be such a service?

You could always buy the retail Blu-ray disk.

Yes, Blinkbox is one of them. I use it all the time (and you get Tesco Clubcard points to).
It works on Windows, Mac OS X, Xbox 360, Playstation 3, iPad, and Android Tablets. As well as Samsung, LG, Philips, and Toshiba Smart tvs.

I think the OP was on about being able to download an HD movie he has legally bought and play it anywhere, as he can with MP3s, without having to worry about being tied to any service or device.

The simple answer is no, you cannot.

The only way you can is to buy the BluRay, and then rip it to your computer yourself.

It's not the way I read it.
