Just had a look at the menu outside the local Frankie and Bannys and could not believe the prices, over £11 for Cheeseburger & Chips. I thought there must be at least a free drink with it or summit but no. Seems crazy to be asking so much especially as there are so many much cheaper places to eat nearby.

I would've thought that was cheap for one of those american diner chains. They are all vastly overpriced (in the UK at least)

Depends really, how much is that at McDonalds? Factor in the added costs and the service and it's probably not too bad a price.

It does seem rather expensive compared to many local country pubs near me.

Not sure if there is a McDonalds close by but if there was i would have thought about £5 absolute max. There is a very popular Wetherspoons 1 minute walk away and cheeseburger and chips with a pint or any other alcoholic drink is £6.75. There is a Hilton hotel 5 minutes walk away and it is £14 for burger and chips.
Maybe it's just me, i have nothing against F&B i just thought £11.50 was way steep especially for the area the one i am talking about is in.

The Wetherspoons burgers are very nice. I had one a few days ago with a pint of Kronenbourg and it was about £6 something and this was city centre. . Cheaper with a non alcoholic drink too.

I just had a look at the menu of a favourite local country pub of mine, a steak cheeseburger is 8.99, a wildboar and chorizo burger 10.95, both I can guarantee will be a lot nicer than anything from FandBs

Frankie and Benny's is overpriced trash. I remember about 8 years ago it used to be quite nice and you got decent portions. Now they've scaled all their food down and made it more expensive with less quality. I never bother with it any more after getting bad quality food in a few of the different restaurants.

For a good homemade burger and proper chips that wouldn't be bad but for the crap you get at Frankie and Bennys it does seem a lot.

Saying that, there's a place near me that does cracking homemade burgers with all sorts of combinations. You can get a double beef burger, pulled pork, cheese, homemade BBQ sauce and chorizo jam with homemade chips for £9.50. They do loads of different burgers. It's right near a Wetherspoons too, why anyone goes to the Wetherspoons I've no idea.

The overhead will not be the same between a country pub and a, likely, city centre location.

does anybody pay full price at F & B ? They give away so many vouchers, student discounts, NHS discount, just about anyone.

Also I thought burger and chips was on their 2 courses for £10 menu ?

Because a burger at Wethers is far less than £9.50 that's why and I bet the beer is a whole lot cheaper as well.

That's true, however city centre pubs and cafe's tend to be even cheaper than country ones.

Who goes to a country pub for burger and chips?

You go to a country pub for duck pate, game pie and haunch of venison.

Personally I only eat foie gras and hare when I go.

£9.50 was an example of a burger piled high with stuff though, a basic cheeseburger and chips there is about £6.50. I don't know how much a cheeseburger and chips is in Wetherspoons these days but I bet it's not far off that. A pound or two extra is a small price to pay to actually get a proper homemade burger and chips rather than a frozen burger and oven chips. The beer isn't badly priced either and they do a nice selection of ales.

You can get a burger with chips, unlimited soft drink and an ice cream for £9.99 at the Harvester and very nice it is too.
I've never been very impressed with F&B's food, Wetherspoons, Harvester etc. far nicer.

Ours just opened today in our new complex. I had a look at the menu and to be honest it is flipping expensive, but no doubt people will use it.

i seen the outside of it as I went tot he complex yesterday with a mate, we only went into Waitrose as he wanted some beer and that was a disaster. i doubt very much if I will ever go into the centre again.

Anyway, back to F and B, a lot fo their food i would not eat, to be honest and like a lot of these other places that sells burgers, they put so much rubbish on it, salad, relish and god no what else. Went to spoons yesterday before we visited the complex and i had a cheese burger, chips and coffee for just over a fiver.
just a normal cheese burger, ok I had to ask them not to put salad with it.

so none of these new restaurants that are opening on the complex will get my custom, that include Nandos, some Italian place, pizza place, a steak house, mexican place, none of them. even costa will not have my custom.

Maybe if they had something a bit more down to earth instead of sky high prices, I may have thought differently.

A bit more down to earth? Really? None of those places sound like they're particularly adventurous.

The burger and chips will cost around £2 max to produce, big profits, but I know they have to pay staff, rent etc too

They would be for me Not my sort of thing at all to be honest. i prefer a local cafe to be honest if i can. I only normally go to spoons with one mate, i don't know why we just seems to end up there.

i suppose to be honest i don't normally eat out, prefer to wait until I get back home.

Urgh, I wonder just how much is freshly cooked on the premises from raw.

Give me a local restaurant/pub any day, You'd expect a chain to be reliable and offer better prices due to the economies of buying in bulk.

Yes but it's more than Wetherspoons, that's the point.

That's no surprise, most places charge about a 500% mark up on food these days.
