That's no surprise, most places charge about a 500% mark up on food these days.

£9.50 was an example of a burger piled high with stuff though, a basic cheeseburger and chips there is about £6.50. I don't know how much a cheeseburger and chips is in Wetherspoons these days but I bet it's not far off that. A pound or two extra is a small price to pay to actually get a proper homemade burger and chips rather than a frozen burger and oven chips. The beer isn't badly priced either and they do a nice selection of ales.

All Wetherspoon burgers are delivered fresh, they are never frozen. Don't do oven chips either.

Wetherspoons chips are amazing, not sure what they do with them but they are yummy
![]() But for the price you can't really complain too much unless it is not edible and I have not had that yet. |

Nothing in Wetherspoons is homemade, it's all mass produced crap. I don't get the mentality of "it's edible and it's cheap". Food should be something that is enjoyed, if I'm paying money for food I want it to be more than "edible", I want it to be enjoyable. Why would you go out and pay to eat something that is inferior to what you could have at home? I want it to at least be the same standard as what I can make at home. |

The chips are definitely frozen! I don't believe you about them not doing them in the oven, they taste just like crap oven chips. Even if you're right and they fry the chips, they're still essentially oven chips (most oven chips are fryable too).

Obviously a large pub chain is going to have a lot of mass produced items, whether or not they are crap or not is open to opinion. I would imagine that even in the higher end establishments, there are still going to be many items that are ordered in pre packaged and not made from scratch. For many, it's about time and effort. I wouldn't eat out if the standard is inferior to what I make at home, but if the cuisine is decent, I can see the attraction of eating out for the sake of convenience. |

I went to a restaurant a few months ago and ordered the slow cooked lamb shank. It cost nearly £20 but I have no vision that it was been slowly cooked for three hours before I went to the restaurant. Of course it was pre-cooked, probably chilled, and then warmed up when I ordered it. |

I guess a lot of people aren't bothered and just view it as food or fuel for the body whereas for me food is a big, important thing. It's the same reason that I'd never go on an all-inclusive holiday and that I never eat in the hotel whilst on holiday, the main thing I look forward to when on holiday is eating out. |

I can understand eating out for convenience but I still want it to be decent. I'd rather pay a couple of pounds more for something that's fresh and homemade. I guess to me, taste is more important than perceived value for money. Good food is something that I don't mind spending money on but I hate spending money on average food. I don't think a Wetherspoons burger is value for money if I've not enjoyed it.

TBH, none of these big chain places, like f and B or Nandos really get me excited, never been in any of them and I doubt I ever will even if we have got about 5 or 6 of them opened up on our new shopping centre. It makes me laugh when i see people on facebook getting excited about Nandos or Chimichanga or Prezzo. for goodness sake, they really should have a look at some of the local restaurants around, which would gives far better value and quality. |

Just FYI you sound like a total snob. I have been to Wetherspoons a few times and it's cheap yet decent food. I'm not gonna say it's the best meal i've ever had, but for the price it's pretty good. I've only ever had chicken and bacon salad and burger from there so I dunno what everything else is like, but what I had was perfectly fine.

I had a hot dog and chips from Wetherspoons yesterday and it was bloody delicious! I had a meal that cost more than twice the price from F&B's and it was tasteless.

How is not liking all inclusive holidays out of touch? My favourite thing about going on holiday is researching restaurants and going to different places each night, trying different things etc. My worst nightmare would be to have to eat in the hotel every night from a buffet. |

Just FYI, you sound massively out of touch yourself. You can get off your own soapbox now, as thankfully, more and more people are coming to realise that appreciating quality food is nothing to do with snobbery and that you can eat well, both at home and at restaurants, without spending a fortune, as long as you're prepared to spend just a tiny bit of time and effort doing a bit of research and preparation.
There's a huge difference in eating well and being an obnoxious food snob, which I can not bare. |

Just FYI, I eat very good food thank you. I buy the vast majority of my meat from a fantastic butcher and get my fruit and veg from a local shop. I make ALL my own meals from scratch, So I eat very good food. However I don't look down on people who eat in Wetherspoons like the person I was responding to was.
There's a huge difference in eating well and being an obnoxious food snob, which I can not bare. "Ah, the old "you're a snob" because when it comes to food I appreciate and enjoy quality. It's not about having money, even if I'd hardly any money I'd rather save up and eat somewhere nice. The times I've had to eat in places like Wetherspoons I've genuinely felt aggrieved at parting with cash for average food. I'm not even necessarily talking about going to high end restaurants though, as I mentioned earlier there's a great place near me that does great food for a pound or two more than Wetherspoons. £2 isn't going to break the bank and for something that's infinitely better it's a small price to pay. How is not liking all inclusive holidays out of touch? My favourite thing about going on holiday is researching restaurants and going to different places each night, trying different things etc. My worst nightmare would be to have to eat in the hotel every night from a buffet." |

Haha, I'm an "obnoxious food snob now", wow! At what point was I looking down on people? I'll repost my point as you completely ignored it.

So I can eat higher quality food if the need comes, but I can also eat lower quality. In fact I love when out in another town finding somewhere that does a nice sausage sandwich, with nice crusty bread. I don't mind paying for better quality, but i also don't mind stuff from spoons. I have just had this evening for tea some homer made air fried chips and a nice Sainsburys beef and onion slice. I enjoyed that. Quote:

i do not like all inclusive either to be honest, in fact I would prefer self catering, then I can decide to cook in or eat out, but not because of quality of food, but because I am a fussy eater ,
