A two inch crack going from right to left.
Toshiba 55" 55yl863

Is fixing it an option? I assumed it was a case of just getting a new one.

Are you insured for accidental damage?

Replacing the LCD panel is likely to cost MORE than a new TV, so it's not a viable repair.

Are you not insured against accidental damage?.

It's a TV at work and we have no insurance.,
A quick google reveals I was naive to think screens could be replaced.

New TV for us.

They 'can' be, I've replaced loads of them - but it's only viable if it's under warranty (and a smashed screen wouldn't be covered anyway).

I have replaced occasional ones out of warranty, but only in Sony sets where the replacement panels are usually the lowest cost of any make - and even at that only a few cost less to do than a new set does.

The most expensive I've seen are Sharp ones, with panels costing 3 to 4 times the price of the set, and not even getting replaced under warranty (the service agents have to arrange for Sharp to replace the TV).

Its a shame the crack isn't going from left to right as they are a lot cheaper to repair.
