Now that it is Tess and Claudia, will they show the results show live?

Myself, like many, were sick of the results show being filmed on a saturday evening and then pretending it was on a sunday evening.
It was pretty obvious that it was filmed on the saturday and televised on the Sunday............
So, now that it is Tess and Claudia, who thinks that the BBC may change their decision and show it live?
I certainly hope they do....... (fingers crossed)

They won't change to a live Sunday show - costs & logistics.

As for broadcasting it on a Saturday, historically far fewer people watched or were able to watch when it last aired on a Saturday. The results show these days is seen by far many more people (which has to be a good thing surely). So no, I don't think that will happen either.

I imagine the studio audience would be damned annoyed if they had to get tickets to two shows, with the related costs such as travel and possibly accommodation.

Not to mention they would then have to pay the whole crew to work on Sundays.

We know that the results aren't usually leaked on here until 10.30 or later, which means it must finish around 10 pm. That would make it too long for one continuous showing.

The only way they could broadcast in in go would be to reduce the number of celebs and therefore the number of weeks, which they probably wouldn't want to do unless they couldn't get enough celebs to take part, which would probably mean the end of the show altogether.

It's possible that they could put the show on earlier.

Main show 17:30 - 19:00 slot followed by results show 20:30 / 21:00 - 21:00 / 21:30.

That would mean the X-factor results would have Sunday nights to themselves, so the BBC need Strictly to give a boost to other Sunday night shows.

Plus it allows flexibility, as they can record the biggest musical guests at any week, and insert the VT into the show.
I am not sure how many musical guests would want to sing 100% live on TV, with no chance of a retake. Record companies like their artists to sound as close to the recorded version when singing on TV.

The early shows in the run last for two to two and a half hours though.

And that also ignores other programming that people expect - Doctor Who for starters.

And starting as early as 17:30 would no doubt impact those who are returning from shopping, finishing work in shops, preparing meals. Less people watching = SCD is failing = cancellation or cutback.

When both shows were shown on a Saturday they didn't get as many viewers as when it was shown on a Sunday.

That's two good thing about him being too worn out to do the results part of the show - it meant they split it over two nights and the ratings for the results went up, plus we had a rest from the inane comments and ramblings. Although some people don't like it, it provides something relaxing and light-hearted for Sunday evening. And if you really want to know the results, you can always check them out on here either late on Saturday or early Sunday morning.

Showing the result show on Sunday has nothing to do with Bruce. They could not have a live sunday result show as Len and Bruno had to fly to LA on sunday morning for Monday's DWTS's show, and the live saturday result show was getting disappointing ratings.

The sunday show is a win-win - a win for BBC as they get 2 shows with high ratings for the price of one, and a win for viewers like me as they get Strictly across the 2 weekend days.

This topic come up every year and I still cannot understand the problem with the Sunday show. Does it say anywhere that all television has to be live?

They could have easily enough have done the results live on the Saturday night when Bruce was still on the main show. It'll be the same presenting line-up for the results show as when it was pre-recorded for the past few years, so I see no reason why they'd change it just because Bruce isn't there any more.

Why would it change anything? Results show is a patchwork of several things anyway, they need time to put it together and they can do without a rush.

“Myself, like many, were sick of the results show being filmed on a saturday evening and then pretending it was on a sunday evening.” Strictly333666

I don’t really think that most people who watched the results show were bothered, or possibly even knew, that it was not being shown live. I know that is probably not the case on a self-selecting audience such as the Digital Spy forum, but most people don’t give a toss about this “pretence”.

Me? – I have it on good authority that Liz is in the kitchen peeling the spuds at the time the Queen’s Christmas Message goes out but... hey!!!!

I don’t think that the departure of Bruce Forsyth is relevant to the issue anyway – pasodabble covers the main issues excellently. Not only Bruno and Len need to fly out but I think also Alan Dedicot (sp?).

But the point pasodabble makes re the ratings is the most crucial – irrespective of any other issues, this is the key point.

During its 11 week run, the “hated” results show, co-hosted by the “despised” Claudia Winkleman was a ratings blockbuster – as already stated, something it could not achieve on a Saturday. (The two words in quotes are referring to views expressed across both the DS forum and other online media,.)

Throughout that time it was up against each Sunday evening, not necessarily at the same time on a head-to-head basis, with the X-Factor, Downton Abbey, and, latterly, I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out OF Here. The latter hosted by a same-sex duo - something which some people seem to believe cannot be a success for a high profile peak time show.

The overnight viewing figures for the SCD Result’s Show which were all presented by Tess & Claudia, (and which can be collaborated by checking the Ratings Thread on Digital Spy), were as follows.....

October 6 8.19m (2nd on the night to Downton Abbey)

October 13 8.3m (3rd to Downton Abbey & the X-Factor)

October 20 9.4m (Top rating for the night)

October 27 8.6m (Top rating for the night)

November 03 10.1m (Top rating for the weekend – i.e. more than SCD Saturday show)

November 10 10.3m (Top rating for the night and just pipping the SCD Saturday overnight of 10.29m – which also featured Claudia!!)

November 17 9.6m (2nd to I’m A Celebrity)

November 24 10.0m (2nd to I’m A Celebrity)

December 1 10.1m (Top rating for the night)

December 8 9.37M (2nd to the I’m A Celebrity final)

December 15 9.6m (2nd to the X-Factor final)

Given those figures the BBC would be mad, (IMHO), to consider any other option!

Anyone who is violently opposed to having to watch the Sunday show can do what everyone else who is desperate to know the result on a Saturday night does – and that is to log in to the wonderful Digital Spy Spoiler Thread!

Even the bookmakers use this thread to adjust their markets!, (substantiation can be provided – will take a short while if required). Off topic, thanks to the people who drive that thread.

And, totally off topic, as someone who has wanted to see Claudia & Tess do the show for years, can I just say YESSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!

They will continue to record the second part of the show.

They'll continue to broadcast it on a Sunday and "pretend."
Two reasons, they fill another slot on Sunday which would cost more to show a different programme and the ratings will still be acceptable for something most know was recorded the previous night.

The BBC won't care if "everyone" already knows the result.
The change was made by "numpty Fincham," not to suit the old codger.

They managed before with an early start - the show used to be on air at 5.30 - 5.45 when the results show was on the same night. And it was directly up against The X Factor back then. If the BBC moved it earlier they wouldn't be stupid enough to cut the show just because the ratings are subsequently lower.

But they won't change the scheduling because it works in terms of viewing figures. The pre-records will continue.

Which year was that? Because the first series aired in 2004, in the Spring. With no Doctor Who (which didn't start until 2005). In the early and mid runs, there were fewer celebrity dancers, so the shows were much shorter anyway (and there fore would have had less impact on the evening's schedule).

Edit - Series 8 by the look of it, in 2010, when Doctor Who was aired in the Spring. Now DW is an Autumn affair.

They might cut it back though, less people viewing means less justification for a big budget, not as many dancers, less time in the schedule.

I totally agree

Do people genuinely care? Is this is because they still think the BBC is trying to fool people or something daft?

There is really no good reason (financial, logistics, scheduling or ratings) to switch it to Saturday night.

I presumed the OP meant have the results show live on a saturday night - like they used to, not film a live results show on a sunday night........

Personally I would like to see the results live on a saturday night but who knows that the BBC will do

I'm happy with how it is now. It means we get a daily dose of Strictly 7 days a week, which is fine with me, as I watch every episode of ITT too.

I prefer to stay unspoiled, so avoid DS/the internet on Sat evening till the Result's show is broadcast. I think they should just stop pretending that it's still Saturday night, and stop saying "on last night's show" and "yesterday". Then people can have no complaint that they've been duped - as amazingly STILL happens sometimes on the BBC website.

With the recorded Sunday show we get more time for Pro dances, and that's got to be a good thing.

If you're watching on Sunday, then they are referring to what happened in the Saturday broadcast. So I don't have a problem with it.

It's like Great British Bake Off recorded during the summer and broadcast later in the year when they refer to what they will do "tomorrow".

Strictly results has beaten all before it in its Sunday slot(including showings of Coronation Street) and doesn't suffer from being recorded in the same way that a talent show would (it would simply not work for X Factor). Most viewers are aware of the Strictly routine now and it works well-better than I ever thought it would to be honest.
The BBC would be mad to put it back to Saturdays.

Although many on here may know the result before the Sunday show, they still watch it, (at least I do), as it's a chance for the pros to get some air time, which otherwise, we would be seeing even less of them, than we do now.

Yes, the only way they could show the result on Saturday evening, apart from it going on for a very long time would be to cut the number of celebs down to 8 as it was when it first started as opposed to the 15 in the last series. Don't think anyone would like that.

I always look at the results on here on Sunday morning, but I do watch the results show because it contains more than just the results. I regard it almost as a separate show rather than as a continuation of Saturday night.

The current format is fine. I enjoy the camaraderie and whatnot awaiting the results on here on Saturday evening and then watching the Sunday results show
