As someone who watches very little TV I cancelled my licence recently, however I'm curious to know if you need a licence to watch internet TV (not live TV) or Netflix on something like a Roku box ?

I have a Roku 3 and as far as I can see the only channel/app that has a live feed is the Sky News app.

As long as you do not watch as shows are broadcast then you do not need a licence.

So from what you said above no you don't.

But you still need a licence to watch "very little" TV. So buy another. Why should the rest of us support you?

You do not need a tv license if you are not watching or recording a show as it is being broadcast.
If you're only using catch up tv/ on demand services then you do not need a tv license, to be safe do what i've done make sure no ariel/cable box etc is connected to your tv. I only have my pc and ps3 connected to my tv and tv license themselves said "as i'm only watching catch up and on demand services i do not need a tv license" they popped around checked i was telling truth and that was that they have left me alone.

If you're recording live TV you need a license.

How did they know you don't watch live TV via Iplayer etc.?

They don't, but it's up to them to prove you do,

It's up to them to prove if i was. I didn't have to even let them in if i didn't want to they have no authority whatsoever they are just merely sales people, but i co-operated they were happy that what i told them checked out, i got letter in the post basically confirming i do not need a tv license and i will not hear from them for 2 years.
Imo on demand is much better than live tv anyway.

I think (someone will correct me if I'm wrong) you need a licence for Now TV because channels like GOLD and Sky One count as live broadcast TV.

Is that right? The line gets more and more blurred by the day

You would technically need one for Nowtv yes as you are correct it has live broadcast channels, however it would be upto tv license to prove you were watching the live broadcasts and not just using it for on demand. Always remember you do not need to sign anything or give any information about yourself to tv license, you can simply say "no thankyou" and close the door.
