Just want to say to anyone who's considering changing to a different os system... don't be afraid!
I was pathetically scared to change from my beloved Apple system and go to Android which seemed to me a dark and scary place.
I couldn't have been more wrong.
Just over 24 hours (so, early days!) I have found it to be so much easier than I feared.
I would like to say a huge thank you to all the FMs who've contributed to my posts and are still continuing to put me straight when I get slightly lost! And with such patience and kindness... not to mention expertise! Thanks, guys!

Android is as simple or as complicated as you want it to be. Enjoy!

What phone did you get?

I get the best of all worlds, a nexus 5 (android), iPad (iOS) and an ultra book (windows 8). Variety is good

Best get a Windows Phone too then!

I got the Sony Z2. Pretty damn good but I'm sure I would have been happy with any of the top range ones. Having a big screen makes all the difference to me. But I'm glad I still have my iPad!

you should have gone for the HTC One (M7) or HTC One (M8) you would have liked Android even more...

Why? I didn't care much for htc sense myself, prefer sonys closer to stock experience myself. Good phones for sure but not one for an android purist.

I think whichever top Android phone you would have gone for (M8, S5 or Z2 etc.... ) you wound have been happy.

It's such a hard decision between all of them (but this one's waterproof, this one has a slightly better camera, this one has a removable battery......).

They are all great phones and in sure you have made the decision right for you with the Z2.

Thanks, Mark. It was a close thing between the two but I feel I made the best choice for me. The main thing is I don't in the least miss my iphone. Apple will really have to pull their fingers out if I'm to go back one day!
Only downside - we went to see old friends yesterday and I think they were offended that I couldn't stop fiddling with my phone. What weird people!!!!!

I've had Android for a couple of years now (first an HTC Desire, then the Galaxy S3 now an S5) and I still find new apps that are useful!

I've had my S5 for about 3 weeks now and still can't stop fiddling with it!!

I'm in the other camp. I had a One X then went to a nexus4 and found that I missed some of the additional functionality within sense. I now have an M8, but I run nova on it, not because I dislike the HTC launcher, just because I like nova.

I did the same I sold my IPhone 5s and went for the Xperia Z2.

I couldn't be happier.

So much nicer to play with! Glad you're enjoying yours too. The only way I'd go back to iphone is if they massively up their game and produce a more Android type phone.
Had a shock this morning though when I was fiddling with settings and accidentally blocked my phone. Went straight back to O2 (they weren't answering their phones! )) and got my PUK number but it was a close call!

Which of your tablets do you prefer.

For each of those device types, you've chosen the platform that gives you the largest choice of software. Android on the phone, iOS for tablets and Windows on the desktop.

You of course lose some synergies in the process of not having everything in the same ecosystem. The key is to choose the online services that play best across all platforms. In that regards, I'd say Microsoft does best - apps for outlook.com and onedrive on all platforms. iCloud stuff is apple products and a bit on microsoft. Google services (e.g. native GMail app) is on apple and android/chrome.

In that sense, I'd probably pick Microsoft services to tie across your multi-platform approach.

Exchange service are pretty good - any you can buy from LOTS of providers, Microsoft direct, or from 1&1 or loads of companies around europe.

But then again, GMail is free and works just fine on Windows (even with Outlook), iOS, or Android (or even Wind00f phone)

A few people around here object to Exchange because companies can demand the ability to remotely wipe your phone in order to use it.

Yes, its a matter of trust, you can run your one Exchange server if you wish, you can't run your own GMail. You can buy hosted Exchange from loads of people, you can only buy hosted Gmail from Google Apps. Remote wipe is often seen as a feature, I agree the control should be given to the customer.

Ah well. I'll disagree on that one. Variety in this scenario is bad.

Decide on one ecosphere and stick with it across all platforms.

That's the thing, so am I !

I did have the n5, nexus 7 and chrome book, however I found the latter too limiting and the nexus 7 too glitchy. Hate to say it but my experience is a lot better now. IOS and windows play just fine with most google apps anyway.
