The next item does fall within the remit of this thread:

A fossilised foot bone carries the oldest evidence of malignant cancer we’ve ever seen. Dating back 1.7 million years, the fossil from South Africa shows signs of osteosarcoma, an aggressive form of bone cancer. The fossil metatarsal bone appears to have belonged to an ancient human, although the researchers who discovered it are not sure which species.

^ On another note, I notice the above unfortunate news. I hope that it is only temporary or that it can be appealed.

Posted a few of these before but here is the full series.

Don't agree with some of what the bloke says (he seems really obsessed with reconstructing non-avian dinosaurs to be as ugly as possible) but if nothing else they are interesting articles.

Make your own mind up.

I sincerely hope that Dodo skeleton is bought by a museum, university or research institute for study purposes and not by an unthinking wealthy private collector even if it means that the specimen goes abroad.

If a non-UK private owner does buy it then I'd like to see an export bar put in place so that a UK institution can be given time to raise the funds to buy it.

I totally agree.

Cutting edge scientific research (DNA samples for example) could be very interesting in revealing the mysteries of this giant flightless pigeon.

I thought the name of the culprit was established several decades ago.
