Moto G - Anybody replaced glass?
Mark in Essex
12-05-2014
Hi there,

My wife has cracked the screen on her Moto G.

The touch side of it works ok so it looks like just the glass needs replacing.

Has anybody replaced one on here?

Ebay sell just the glass (not the digitiser/touch part) for £6.

Cheers Mark.

youtube is usually pretty good for this. but i would consider phoning round some local mobile phone repair shops.

I have been impressed with SPS in Cricklewood London. They replaced an HTC screen for me when others could not. Also fixed 3 other phones for me.

They do a mail service but if you can get to London can do it in a few hours.

Thanks for the replies.

I have emailed the place in Cricklewood to get a rough idea on how much it will be.

We have Barclays insurance on it, but the excess is £25 and not sure if it will effect future claims if we claim for this.

Been looking more into replacing the glass on the phone and I may give it a miss and just claim on the insurance or see if anywhere can do it cheaply as it looks a pain to actually separate the glass from the digitizer (see here for a Galaxy: http://www.etradesupply.com/blog/rep...y-smartphones/ ).

Ebay do sell screens complete for £31, but I wonder if they are genuine with Gorilla Glass (not like that did any good last time ): http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-Black-...item3f34bbdff5

It's either that or look for a faulty one on Ebay that has a good screen and swap it over.

It doesn't affect claims on that insurance. But beware they will take an absolute age to do anything with it. Took me just under a month to get my Nexus 5 replaced. Terrible service.

Yeah replacing the screen glass is quite labour intensive and although cheaper than replacing the whole screen, is ridiculously hard to get "perfect". Probably something only worth doing if you do it yourself as the prices some places charge approach the cost of a replacement screen with factory affixed glass.
