Samsung sell in 10 million Galaxy S5's!

Samsung have shipped in over 10 million units of their latest Galaxy S5 handset in just 25 days. Since the inception of the Galaxy S line each and every model has been a strong performer. In retrospect the Galaxy S4 achieved 10 million shipped units in 27 days of on-shelf time, the Galaxy S III did so in 50 days, the Galaxy S II in 5 months and the Galaxy S in 10 months.

Samsung currently have the fastest selling Android flagship phones on the market.

No other manufacturer even comes close. Here are sales comparisons with Samsung flagships against last years flagship devices. Will we have a rival to Samsung anytime soon?

~63.0m - Samsung Galaxy S4
~60.0m - Samsung Galaxy S3
~50.0m - Samsung Galaxy S2
~25.0m - Samsung Galaxy S
~10.0m - Samsung Galaxy S5
~6.40m - HTC One (M7)
~5.00m - Sony Xperia Z
~4.00m - Huawei Ascend P6
~3.50m - LG G2

Funny how the actual best selling smartphones have been left out... Sure Samsung sold more than anybody else, if you deliberately leave out everyone who sold more than them. Duh.

Since everybody loves a bit of good ol' selective reporting, while Samsung sold 10 million in 25 days, their biggest competitor was busy selling 9 million in 3 days. Suddenly other manufacturers don't only come close but beat them by a mile.

Only if you think anything you're jealous of not having is ugly.

To be fair this is an Android smartphone comparison.

Besides we don't have any iPhone comparisons here as the iPhone 5C and 5S figures are for two SKU's rather than one. The only number we can use to compare is the two million units sold in 24 hours for the iPhone 5. But that doesn't say how many were sold in 25 days, nor do Apple ever say how many units an individual model has sold. It's very likely that the iPhone 5 shipped more units than the Samsung Galaxy S4 but that's unknown at the moment. All we know is Samsung outsell Apple worldwide when it comes to total smartphone shipments. When it comes to individual models it looks like Apple have an edge but there is no proof for that.

So it's very hard to compare Apples and Oranges.... sorry, Samsung.

In the Android smartphone market it's clear that Samsung are on top at the moment and no other flagship phone is able to match the Galaxy S series when it comes to shipped units. However there is more competition within the 2nd to 5th places where Lenovo-Motorola, Huawei, LG and others are fighting it out to be the second largest Android manufacturer.

Yep, no figures for the iPhone 5s at all now.

Heck, they even bundle in the iPhone 4 in 'total iPhone sales'.
edit - sorry Apple now say 'shipped'.
When iPad sales fell heavy it was said to be because channel inventory had been already 'topped up'.

I guess Samsung shipped like Apple, they did not sell as in 'normal consumer sales'.

Is that numbers sold or numbers shipped. As we found out in the recent court case the two are nowhere near the same.

It says in the title.

They are shipped numbers. Every company uses shipped numbers in their official report (even Apple).

I still use my S2 alongside my S4. Not desperately tempted by the S5 but I have a contract renewal due next month so we'll see... Going from the S2 you will notice a huge difference though.

Apple reports on sales, not numbers shipped. They're to my knowledge the only major computing/personal electronics company that does so.

No they report shipped.

Such as shipments to carriers and retailers.

It's their own channels such as Apple.com and Apple Store where they report sell through figures. Pre Orders count as sold through.

So in their 9 million iPhone 5C/5S sold in, it's estimated that only 5.5m were sold through to customers and 3.5m were still on store shelves.

Sell in means shipped.

Sold through means sold to customers.

Sales are now shipped. If they are paid for by someone then they are 'sales with spin'.

Just read my prior post as to what happens when the press dutifully report like clockwork that it is all 'sales to the consumer'.
I'm not quite blaming Apple for this trend, but just about everything they say gets reported verbatum.
