Cottage Pie in Oven with timer
Hi
I have cooked and cooled the meat, just doing the potato mash but plans have changed. If I put the mash on and put into the oven, delay the start for about 45 mins then cook for 40mins will it be OK or will the potato go brown? Many thanks ![]()

Depends on the oven & temp.

Just lower the temperature of your oven if it's starting to get too dark, or put some foil over the top. But the top of the potato topping should be a nice golden-brown anyway.

If you mean will the potato go brown in the way that uncooked potato exposed to air goes brown, then no, it won't. You should be/have been absolutely fine.

Gotta have cheese!
Actually had it last night. A few days back I made fish pie topped with grated parmesan and thinly sliced mozzarella.
