Had an email today with some news about youviews bt service from youview update reads as

On May 8th BT published it's quarterly financial report.
See: http://************/q86ozlr

Slide 32 (BT TV - future plans) contains some interesting information:

More third-party content and channel distribution deals
New YouView shareholder agreement gives more control over roadmap
New capabilities such as
– multi-room
– entry level YouView box
– connected red button

A member of the YouView forum ("Visionman") has found a transcript of the actual BT results speech from Gavin Patterson which provides some more detail:

"In terms of what we are going to do, going forward, we will continue to broaden that proposition with channel partners and distribution deals.

I am very pleased that we have signed a new shareholders’ agreement on YouView. And this gives much more control over the roadmap and allows us to continue to invest in the product itself. And you will see some of those coming through in this next quarter.

So, we are launching multi-room this quarter. You will see that in the next few weeks. There will be a new entry level, YouView box later in the year and of course we will be the first platform to have the new BBC Red Button Services before the World Cup."

hmm i actually dont want them to offer a multiroom service because we know for 100% fact they will start to charge a monthly subscription for this and it currently already works anyway for free, the thought of more channels is nice though especially if they wantto become a real competitor to sky/VM in the TV market

Wouldn't it be good if YouView, BT & TalkTalk provided more information about their plans (obviously with a warning that they are "To be confirmed")?
Instead we rely on forum members searching in fairly obscure sources, and an unofficial notification resource such as YouViewUpdate.

No news on connected red button services?

Or a software update that will stop my box thinking it's disconnected every time it's been asleep for longer than a few hours?

Very surprised they don't have connected red button in time for the World Cup - it's probably too late now. It's surprising how long it has taken to implement unicast given the wide availability of the technology, even on a low-end £30 streaming box, never mind a £300 PVR. They need the recently announced additional programming resources at YouView urgently!

The real test will be Wimbledon and the Commonwealth Games when the large number of extra streams will really make a difference to the viewing experience.
