One of the best things about SE Asia is just how fresh the fruit is. On every corner you can buy tropical fruit which was on a tree that morning,
Freshly squeezed watermelon with a very large vodka is fantastic! |

Apparently freshly cut pineapples should be dipped in salt water for 5 seconds before eating to avoid acid burn on the tongue. It makes the fruit taste even sweeter too.

I love a ripe mango or persimmon - the flavours are beautiful. I do like pineapple but it has to be just right and that's difficult to gauge!
When I went to Sri Lanka we were given pineapple with black pepper sprinkled on it - it did taste very good ![]() |

You've got to do it. You can buy fresh pineapple, mango, watermelon and loads of other fruit from streetside stalls for pennies that was only picked a few hours ago. Just book a flight to Bangkok and follow your taste buds around the region - they have some of the best food in the world.

Ugggh! Is that what they do there these days? When I went there over 20 years ago it was I think salt. I dunno, I don't think I could bring myself to 'season' a pineapple, but then again I shouldn't really knock it til I've tried it, I guess.
I prefer my pineapple plain!

I think there's nothing better than a really good British summer strawberry.
I do love ice cold tinned pineapple with carnation milk though. |
