I recently got the LG 32LA620V. The TV itself is great - the picture quality is second to none.

However, on some Freeview HD programmes I seem to get what I can only describe as motion blurring or screen tearing. It doesn't always happen - just on certain movements to the left and right. I've done some investigating and it only seems to happen on broadcasts that the EPG is saying are in 1080p.

This seems to be the opposite to what I'd expect -- i.e. surely 1080i would have more motion blur?

I'm trying to work out if I've got a faulty set or if I need to play around with the settings a bit?

There's sod all difference between 1080i50 and 1080P25, you certainly don't have a 'faulty set', more likely it's down to the excessive compression used, or you have various picture 'enhancing' settings on your TV, which are best turned OFF.

Well, I haven't used any picture enhancing settings since I noticed the issue.

I assume you're referring to TruMotion settings?

I've heard other people mention a 'dirty screen effect' that's common on LED screens. I've come from a smaller 1080i TV, so maybe it just wasn't as noticeable on that.

A friend of mine has a 50" Samsung and I'm very unimpressed by the way that "foggy" panels within the screen can sometimes be seen behind the picture. It's difficult to describe, but it's almost as if house brick-sized sections have been left smeared. There's often motion blur during football matches as well.

I've read about the "smearing" and I'm not sure if that's what I've got, as it's hard to explain.

It happens when where's movement (i.e. camera panning) or in dim colours. But I think it might just be an LED thing and I'm being overly critical because the TV is new.

I have this with every new TV I get. I don't know whether the TV adapts or I do but after a few weeks it is no longer noticeable.
I agree with Nigel that the best place to start is turning of enhancements (especially the ones starting with the word 'dynamic')
If you have themes, try the Video Games theme which on my TV switches almost all enhancements off. If this solves the problem then reintroduce the enhancements a little at a time until you're happy.
