Do you mean you can't see it in explorer?

If I'm right and that was a typo, have you tried it on another PC/laptop?

If it only works on the 2nd one, you'll still be able to do your transfers if you back both PC and laptop up to eg Google Drive.

If you haven't got another one, try it in a different USB port and if it still won't work - try another USB cable.

I've had this happen with other devices and it's annoying but fixable.

Good luck

YW

You get 25GB (might be only 20GB now but certainly no less) of free storage so that should be more than enough to do your transfers as you can sync over wifi between the PCs/laptops.

Dropbox is another alternative that syncs but their free storage is much less at only 5.5GB however, that might be enough for your needs so is worth considering.

Don't you have to 'mount drive' on the Hudl to make its memory visible on the PC?

And I assume it is only MTP by default now for non SD card files.

I never have - my W7 laptop loaded the drivers itself and there it was in Explorer.

I've no idea what your last sentence means and I fiddle about with android quite a bit so not sure someone struggling to get to grips with what the OP is, is going to find it useful.

No offence, but jargon can be really off-putting to people who are trying to learn so speaking as though you're talking to people who know as much as you do, probably isn't going to be very helpful to those who don't.

MTP, if I got that right, simply refers to 'media files only'. (likely an abbreviation for something like 'media transport protocol' That was mentioned as being standard on the Moto G.
The OS stuff gets hidden but mp3 and mp4 type stuff can be found and copied.

Well atm, he can't see the device so he'll have to sort that first no matter what files he's trying to transfer to it.

MTP is supported on XP but only with >=SP2 and WMP >=v10. this seems likely to be the issue to me.

I got my old XP machine to recognise the Hudl by using the driver package from:

http://www.drivermax.com/driver/upda...-ADB-Interface

Since then I have switched to Win7 and that found it with no bother!

you shouldn't need that. the ADB driver is for devs. it's for debug mode. as in you run your apps on the device and the error log is on the computer live.

though whatever works i guess.

I have my Hudl set to developer mode anyway! The second thing I ever
did with it,was open up the developer console, after removing all of the
Tesco crap that came with it.Now it's virtually a 'plain vanilla' android
tablet which is how I wanted it!

Can that be done without rooting?

I'd love to get rid of the bloatware and shite but I really don't want to run the risk of bricking it when it's still in warranty

Accessing the Developer Console is so easy it's laughable!Just look around
online for details how to do the 'seven taps' to open it up for you! Or take a
look at the Hudl Users Group Forum Which can be found at:

http://www.hudluser.com/index.php?si...661ef0a93eb072

To disable all the Tesco crap, just open your Apps menu and select them
one at a time and disable them. They are not actually removed form your
Hudl but will do nothing. The T in the bottom left corner will no longer do
anything either once this is done!

Yeah - I disabled all their useless old shite as soon as I switched the thing on

I'd really like to get the bloatware off permanently though, to free-up some space.

It would be fine for a single user, but the OH and I share it and both have a ton and a half of books on the Kindle app so space is at a premium.

Thanks for linking me up - I'll look into what you've said as I'll try anything that doesn't involve rooting which is going to have to wait until late October when the warranty expires

Really?

My 'certainly no less' comment was a load of old cobblers then

Thought it might have gone down by now - but not by that much!

I got 25GB so must have been an early adopter

i've got 25GB but that extra 10GB is due to me installing that Mailbox app at some point (and that extra 10GB is only for 2 years).

use https://www.google.com/settings/storage?hl=en_GB to see what you have and hover over the pie chart which will show you a breakdown of what you get.
