Hi,
Sorry if I am repeating another thread, but it is Sunday morning and I have more than a slight headache
Has there been any news yet on when the recording/pausing of the Boost channels is getting updated to our boxes yet?
Not too worried about the record to be honest, because with all the catch up services, I seldom record, but the pause would be handy.
Thank you.
Now where's the Alka Setlzer?

There was a rumour circulating earlier this month that it would be here within four weeks (which would make it two to three weeks now). The same rumour suggested that TalkTalk were to introduce a different way of streaming the Boost channels. The second, at least, may have been implemented already because my Sky channels no longer break up. Previously, I was unable to watch an hour-long programme without the picture breaking up and freezing once. That no longer happens, so something must have changed.

That info comes from a YouView forum thread.
The recording of Boost channels should be happening soon, but there's a suggestion that we should be a bit cautious about this - see: https://community.youview.com/youvie...reply_14238019

It's been said to be happening 'soon' for about a year now, so don't get too excited! You can already pause and rewind the boost channels if you faff about watching them through the TalkTalk player, but you might also lose the will to live during the process.

Well my info which comes from a fairly senior lady at TalkTalk is that they "have a major software upgrade due over the summer".
Make what you will of that.

Ah yes the summer of 14.

3014.

The senior lady's great great great grandchildren will no doubt be around for the GREAT unveiling.

I think they are rather embarrassed about all this, but because TalkTalk have the sense to run a proper trial system they've realised that the current trial software is still too flaky.
So it's probably wise of them to wait until they are more confident that it will actually work.

I could not agree more with you. It's not like there's anything similar about.

So who the heck in this day and age would continually pay for half a service?

Lets make a list......

Here it comes.

P.S, As a long term ex customer I believe my sarcastic views are valid enough .

You're decision is completely understandable.

When I first received my TalkTalk YouView box I very rapidly decided to cancel the contract and send it back. I'm not quite sure why I didn't actually do that. Since then I've had a love/hate relationship with YouView and TalkTalk, and it's become something of an obsession.

You would think that by now everything would have settled down, but no - controversies and outrage continue. BT pretty much promised Connected Red Button in time for the World Cup and they've failed to deliver.

Observing all this is "all good fun".

Indeed and on that happy vein, summer solstice is here.
So if we dance naked round the old oak tree and kiss a few giant granite stones, then maybe, just maybe, Talk talk youview may actually deliver something close to what a couple of others already do.

This year.

or maybe next.

perhaps

or not.....

P.S. I wrote this post some eons ago, but before I actually submitted it, I made sure it went through approximately two years of vigorous testing.

To achieve

Not much.

But at least I didn't charge anyone for the privilege.

Sometime!
Ask Dido!

She actually reads many of her emails.
Try it...

At last! Well, that is good news anyway. Keeping my fingers crossed that the wait has been worth it.

For what it's worth...
I started posting on the TalkTalk forum a long time ago.
I then used the YouView forum.
But I am now posting in this forum.

BUT...

The TalkTalk boxes are flawed.
They are slow.
If you are old (like me) this is not a problem.
But I bought a BT box from eBay.

That is interesting...There is an underlying fault with recording IP channels on the boxes (back to back recording of IP channels fail), I presumed this was what was keeping TalkTalk from releasing the software update. Either this fault does not appear on the TalkTalk boxes, it has been fixed (no update from the other boxes yet) or they have just decided to release it anyway...Will be interesting to find out.

Absolutely!
But Dido will be VERY pissed off if they haven't got it right.

There is another thread (started by yours truly - who is old, like you, Gwatuk) discussing how the Huawei boxes seem to have picked up a bit of speed lately. It isn't just me. Others have noticed it as well. The only explanation that anyone has come up with so far is that it might be connected with the new TalkTalk Player. Perhaps that makes fewer demands and resources have been freed up for use elsewhere. That is pure conjecture, by the way. It does seem to be the case, however, that the boxes now work in a more responsive manner. Greased lightning, they aren't, but they are certainly slicker than they were. Didn't you mention that TalkTalk were confident that the forthcoming update would remove much of the performance differential between the Huawei and Humax boxes? We'll find out soon enough, I suppose.

The trial finishes today!!!

Let's hope the roll-out doesn't take too long. I'll be checking for updates on a regular basis.

I assume they'd not want to update everyone's SW over a bank holiday weekend when they are bound to be short staffed in the call centres, but maybe later next week?

I've got a DN370T box, not connected to a TalkTalk line and it's now updated to a firmware dated 19th August 2014. This may be the start of the rollout.
