Why oh why do companies insist on selling us hardware that doesn't allow us to 'easily' download what we've taken videos from onto our PC's without a load of ag!

Top and bottom of it is I've mislaid the software disc that came with the camcorder. I contacted Panasonic who want nearly £25 for a replacement disc and all I need off it (apparently) is HD Writer LE 1.1.

Bobbin rastards, even Dick Turpin wore a mask!!

Do you actually need the Panasonic software? Could you not use any video editing software to manipulate the recordings? From what I can see it doesn't appear that Panasonic use a propriety format for the video that would lock you into their software.

So just a matter of finding something that can read the video format it does use and go from there.

Just copy the video files from the stream folder folder (.mts file extentions).

File and folder structure shown here

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AVCHD

You can either connect the camera by usb or simply use a card reader on the PC.

Pretty well any video editing software will open these (including Windows Movie Maker).

I don't know about your specific model but one advantage of the panasonic software that I have with my 700HD camcorder is that you do your editing on the PC but if your camcorder is connected then it off-loads rendering to the camcorder which is quicker then my i5-750 based PC.

The cost of carelessness.
Having owned many camcorders and digital cameras over many years, there's not a single one that I have ever owned that the free software was worth anything (apart from one feature that most will never even know about).

If you seriously think a base level Panasonic camcorder can somehow support using the real time mpeg encoder from a camcorder from an external input, you are deluded and have not considered what such a process would require.

Have you ever owned a HD camcorder ?

Have you ever used any pro/semi pro editing software ?

Have you ever used a camcorder of any description with any sort of editing software ?

Have you ever used a camcorder capable of recording ac3 audio in 2,0 or 5.1 format ?

Do you have any practical experience at all in this field ?

Answer yes to any of the above, please provide the following details.

Camcorder make and model ?

Source Video and Audio format (Compression codec used to capture digital video and audio ?

For Video, bitrate used (vbr or fixed), resolution ?

For Audio, sample rate, number of channels ?

Software used to create the edited content?

Video and Audio compression codec and file container used to create compatible content for the destination storage type ?

Software used to create a suitable output if the output is intended for burning to a optical storage medium ?

Output format used for optical media, DVD-Video, AVCHD-Video on DVD (HD), AVCHD-Video on Blu-ray (HD) or Blu-ray ?

If you had any experience at all other than interjecting totally pointless and negative posts, you would know the answers to the above.

What exactly has your post added to this thread ?
