Big Brother Forever Starts In Germany.
EddyBee

'Germany's version of the Big Brother TV show takes a giant leap on Tuesday with the opening of a small town mimicking The Truman Show ... In the new Big Brother village, the only difference will be that contestants willingly participate in this next-generation leap into voyeurism, and it will run indefinitely ... '

Full story at the Sunday Herald, 27/02/05.

They've lasted a whole year with series 5 so what makes you think they can't make it last for around 3 years+?
They obviously like it cos the current series has been extremely successful

Floorplan: http://www.bigbrother.de/index.php?A...yworldOverview

Haven't looked at the site properly yet - or translated, but as well as the three types of job (which appear to be Farm, Mechanic, Salon), the housemates - (technically villagers I assume!) are grouped into "Assis", "Chefs" and "Hiwis".

Only 11 in their so far!

Had a bit more of a look round now - this is what I can make out.

There is a central marketplace. On one side of the street are three houses - Chefs=Rich, Assis=Normal, Hiwis=Poor. On the otherside are a garage and hairdressers, while there is a barn - complete with cows, pigs and chickens next to the poor house.

The rich house has a big lounge, private garden with pool, it's own "Big Bar" and fitness suite - including sauna. It appears only three people live here - one from each place of work - presumably the bosses.

The normal house is nice enough - just not as luxurious as the rich house. It also seems to have no garden - I guess the marketplace is for that. 4 people currently live here.

The Hiwis house is basically a yard with a covered sleeping area complete with army-cot style beds. This is home to 4 people.

There is also a Match Room, which I presume is for tasks.

The interiors of the houses looks nice enough - but the central "marketplace" is hideous - looks more like a dodgy theatre set than a typhical row of houses!

A bit more info through translation - though I apologise for any mistakes.

Over the next two weeks four more people will move into the village - and there will be 3 "chefs" with 6 in both of the other houses.

The nomination process then begins - it sounds fairly complex.

From what I understand (and I may have got this majorly wrong!) they can nominate who they like, with the top three facing the public vote. After one week the person with the least votes to evict is saved. Voting then continues with the other two nominees to determine the evictee.

The "evictee" will then go head to head with a newcomer - and I think a further public vote determine who gets to stay in the village.

As for tasks each villager gets a wage for their jobs - but also have to pay out expenses like rent etc. Further money can be won through tasks and long term challenges.

All profits from the workplace go into a pot and every 3 months a vote is held with viewers voting for their favourite. This money is then split in relation to the percentage of votes received (e.g. If there was €100,000 in the pot and I received 35% of the votes, I get €35,000.)

Yes I agree with you Breckie Boy, sounds quite complicated. I like the idea of different houses tho. That's bound to cause conflict & jealousy, which can only be good to watch

At the beginning there are 11 inhabitants in the village altogether. Four in the "Hiwi house", four in the "Assi house" and three persons in the "Chef house". In the next two weeks two further participants will each be added to the Hiwis and the Assis, until altogether 15 persons are in the BB village.

For the initial three weeks the inhabitants have no nominations. When all 15 persons have lived together for one week in the village, the first nominating round begins. Each inhabitant may nominate one other inhabitant from any house. The three inhabitants with most nominations are then up for eviction on the live show.

Important: The viewer always calls for the participant who s/he does not want to see any more in the village. By telephone voting, the viewer can decide, which of the three nominated, s/he would like to vote out. The person with fewest calls is thus saved and the two remaining must worry about their place in the BB village.

In the next live-show the viewer can call again for the candidate, who s/he would gladly chuck out from the village. The participant with most calls is then put up against a ‘Challenger’. That means, a new inhabitant goes in for one week in the same house as the nominated one. During this week the new participant tries, of course, to convince the public to be allowed to stay further in the BB village.

Whether s/he succeeds is decided at the end of the week again by a telephone vote on the live show. The result is announced during the show. Challenger or Nominated – the one with most votes leaves the village that evening and a new nominating round begins all over again.

The BB village is a small independent world. Around the market place there are three houses, a pub, a fitness centre, three play areas and an arena.

Each team has its defined living area. The "Chefs" live in luxury, the "Assis" in a medium sized, functionally equipped living area and the "Hiwis" in very simple conditions.

The Hiwi house
It’s hard to get any smaller. Six "Hiwis" must share one room. Whether it’s cooking, washing, sleeping, eating, everything takes place in only one room. Once per week the six inhabitants of the "Hiwi house" receive a virtual amount of 510 euro, from which they must pay their weekly rent of 300 euro. Therefore they have a 210 euro weekly budget left to live off. But there is the possibility this to increase this small budget. The "Chefs" can book themselves "Hiwis" for “lowly” household duties several times per day.

The "Assi house"
This consists of a simple, functionally equipped living area. The weekly budget for the “Assis” amounts to 1,230 euro less 600 euro rent. Also, the inhabitants with the status "Assi" can increase their budget by providing household services to the "Chefs”, such as cooking or waitressing

For the collective good of everyone, the “Assis” must provide the pub-help free of charge

The "Chefs house" is a area full of luxury. Besides the generously arranged living and eating areas, are a modern kitchen, a large bedroom and a dressing area

For the three "Chefs" there is 3,100 euro per week less 1000 euro rent. This money does not have to be spent within one week. There is a possibility to save some, in order to be able to afford a completely special event. As well as these events the Chefs may book themselves chosen assistants for the following activities: ironing, cooking, waitressing, massages etc. For hard physical activities, for example gardening or cleaning, daily "Hiwis" can be booked.

In the BB village there will be regular so-called Matches, Challenges and Missions of your Life. These can be called at each time of day by BB. The outcome of a "Match" decides for example on privileges, rewards, punishments as well as money or special gains. If several persons of a residential environment participate in a match and it concerns a financial gain, this is divided among the inhabitants and credited on the individual virtual BB accounts.

The Challenges will basically be conducted between two inhabitants only. It may be that the inhabitants are taken to another unknown place to carry out a Challenge. Should an inhabitant refuse to take part in a Challenge this is immediately considered as lost.

The "Mission of your Life" is a completely special test, explicitly for the inhabitant concerned. Apart from the overcoming of fears, psychological and physical borders, the central themes of the Missions are education, self-discipline, courage, and discovering own talents and abilities. A mission can last hours, days or also weeks. Apart from the personal test, these Missions are even connected with high prize money, which, on success, is credited to the virtual BB account.

How is it decided who goes into which house ?

In the BB village there are three different fields of activity: The car workshop, the studio and the farm. Depending upon inhabitant status the inhabitants must perform different tasks here. Of course, the inhabitants are professionally instructed on the respective area.

Farm
The farm covers an effective area of 1000sq.m. The activities on the farm include keeping of domestic cattle and cultivation and harvest of vegetables, herbs and fruit. The animals kept are pigs, chickens, goats and cows.

Car workshop
In the workshop is a lifting ramp and a general-purpose area with an office and kitchen area. The major task is the installation and assembly of car kits.

Studio
Here is a conference room with design computer as well as a manufacturing area with a screen printing machine. The major task is the drafting and the preparation of various clothing and accessories.

The daily routine within the BB village
At the beginning of the week each Chef receives a task by computer and their duty is to ensure that it is completed within the week. Therefore, the Chefs are 100% responsible for the week’s results. Attaining the week’s goal is enormously important for the hierarchy within the field of activity. If a Chef has led his team badly and did not obtain the desired result, s/he is degraded to a "Hiwi". The viewers decide by telephone voting which of the four subordinates is now promoted to a Chef.

As in the real life, unforeseeable events can impair productivity. A defective machine, for example, can negatively affect the result of the week’s goal. However, such events within BB do not occur accidentally. At irregular intervals the viewers can decide by telephone voting, which department should experience hardship.

Leisure time in the BB village
After the hard work, the inhabitants may relax. Therefore there is a fitness area and a pub in the BB village. The fitness area is accessible to all inhabitants, provided that it was booked by the respective team. The pub is opened up on BB’s announcement. All the inhabitants here may meet together here to exchange views

Each inhabitant has a virtual BB account. In which are credited all winnings which are won in the course of the BB time. If an inhabitant from the BB village is voted out, s/he receives the full amount of his/her account. If an inhabitant should say good-bye prematurely from the project, all credits are forfeited. There is no final winning amount as such, but all inhabitants have variable opportunities to increase their account during the duration of their stay.

Winnings from the areas of activity (studio, workshop and farm)
The winning amounts of the three areas will be calculated based on status and achievement and will flow into a general Jackpot. As a maximum, a "Hiwi" can win 100 euro per week, a "Assi" 250 euro and a "Chef" 500 euro. These maximum sums are paid only if the respective team’s week goal was achieved 100%. If the week’s goal is only partly achieved, then only a proportional amount is paid in.

The Jackpot
Every three months there is the possibility to steal the Jackpot that has been filled up by the competitors. BB reserves the right to increase this Jackpot. How much any individual inhabitant gets credited from the Jackpot is decided by the viewers telephone voting. The jackpot budget is given in proportion to the number of viewer calls. That is, if an inhabitant gets 45% of all viewer calls, s/he can look forward to receiving 45% of the Jackpot in his/her BB account.

Individual winnings
When a a so-called "Mission of your Life" or a Challenge is successfully completed, the amount thereby won is credited to the respective BB account of the inhabitant.

Match winnings
When a Match involves one inhabitant, the reward money is credited on the respective virtual BB account. If a Match involves several inhabitants in the winning, the reward money between the persons involved can be divided up and be credited on the different accounts.

Sorry, it doesn't go into anymore specifics.

I have no idea how they were initally decided - I guess they pulled straws or something?

However, now thats decided, a Chef is demoted to Hiwi if s/he fails to attain his her goal.

I guess, dependant on the viewers vote either:
a) a Hewi becomes a Chef
or
b) an Assi becomes a Chef and a Hewi becomes an Assi

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Also, just to clarify, telephone voting includes texting.

Thanks Dawson! I can't believe how much organisation must have gone into this programme, it must have taken years to design and build as well as constant production
