No I think he brought Alfie along so he could stop him from thumping max.

Done nothing wrong. He should be free to go where he likes and do what he likes. It has nothing to do with Phil, The Weasel or anyone else.

I honestly can't believe that people feel sorry for Max!
He had every right to sleep with consenting 20 yo Lucy - but he shouldn't have. Lucy was his eldest daughter's best friend - you just don't do that!

And more to the point, Lauren is an alcoholic. If she drinks one drop, it could kill her.
Lauren is well known for doing crazy things when she's upset - running over her dad, anyone? It is incredibly likely that Lauren is bottling all this up, and eventually she'll burst, and go on a massive bender. As I've said before, Lauren has to look after herself, but Max is her dad. He shouldn't be doing anything (literally) which could risk her recovery. Including banging her best friend.

It's not that it was immoral, it's that it was irresponsible. He shouldn't have done it, but he did. And now he's facing the consequences, just as he deserves.

Um Lucy was over 18 so she could sleep with whoever she wanted. I think what has annoyed them the most though is the fact that Lauren is her age. Yes he kept it secret but he's Max a liar and a cheat even when he had a wife.

No I didn't, not in the slightest. But the hypocritical flock of vultures judging him was hilarious.

Agreed. Good post. Boggles my mind when some folks try and defend a character that simply has no defence for his/her actions .

BIB: Exactly.

How can I feel sorry for a man who just targets women when their vunerable and uses them for sex

Sleeping with you child's best friend is without a doubt distasteful and I don't have an issue with his own family and Lucy's family being disgusted with him. But it really isn't anybody else's business. A lot of people would think that what Alfie did in getting with his ex wife on his wedding day to another woman was pretty disgusting but that didn't give them the right to run him out of town. A lot of people would think phil sleeping with his brothers wife was disgusting but again it was only actually the family's business.

It is just that Lucy having died makes it rawer for everyone so people are over reacting.

Re the effect on Lauren, sorry but I disagree. Whilst I think that Max has been a bad parent much of the time and don't by the way approve of him having shagged Lucy (or Stacey, or Tanya when she was married to Greg) - is he supposed to live his life in a bubble not doing anything for fear of upsetting Lauren and pushing her over the edge. Lauren has to take responsibility for her own life and the fact is that she will encounter upset during the course of her life and it is her cross to bear that she will always want to turn to alcohol but it is her cross - not everybody else's. They can't live their lives judging every decision with the remit of "what will Lauren think, will this upset her, will this make her drink". That just isn't fair. Of course she should be considered, everybody should be considered, nobody should do something they know will upset somebody else (not everybody's vulnerabilities are as obvious as alcoholism but nearly everyone has them) just because it is a kind thing to do. For example does Lauren always get put before Abi or Oscar if Max doing something for them would upset Lauren? Has anyone considered what effect failing her exams will have on Abi? And let's not forget that Lauren was the main reason she failed last year.

I don't feel sorry for him in that he is finally getting some payback for letting his dick control his actions. I just think that it is over the top because of Lucy's death and he has no way of proving it was consensual and she was more than up for it. Also, maybe, just maybe, he did care about her (as much as Max cares for anyone) and might be mourning and missing her?

I'd rather he'd got this treatment for supporting Kat's perjury, throwing Alice to the wolves just so he could get Stacey back to shag because I think that was a much, much worse thing to do morally.

He is completely selfish and self-absorbed so nope not an ounce of sympathy.

Actually, I feel sorry for Jake Wood. His character has become a ridicule figure since coming on to Stacey, being willing to send his own niece to prison in order to save her and then for sleeping with Lucy.

Up until those events I always had a bit of a soft spot for Max and found reasons to excuse his appalling behaviour. I'm bang out of excuses for him now though and just find him a sad, weak, pathetic creature.

I thought it was Lucy that was using him for sex.

Yes, Lucy obviously agreed to sleep with Max on the premise that he would stump up the money for the flat letting agency/business....it takes two to tango and all that Yes, theoretically then Max should've know better than to sleep with a girl half his age but it wouldn't be the first time and that phenomenon is as old as the hills in society as it is - it is not wrong either if both parties are happy to go along with it and are of the consenting age. It probably wasn't the wisest thing in the world to do, being how close everyone is in the square and at how oppressive it is - they were bound to be seen by someone sooner or later, in this instance Abi.
