Apparently the Freesat platform doesn't allow channels to be limited to certain areas by postcodes (Sky use their subscriber database).

Freeview channels can also have a specific broadcast area by only using specific transmitters, though admittedly not as tight, but not UK wide like freesat.

I've added it to the "other channels" of the Sky HD box. But is it Free to air or free to view (card required). London Live is free to view but requires that the card is matched to the box, just like Sky Sports/Movies which is annoying, meaning I can't get it on the 2nd box next to the computer.

Is STV Glasgow free to air and available to non-Sky boxes?

Never mind, It's scrambled on my box. So it looks like another London Live type channel where they think that only limiting it to a few people is the answer.

Won't be able to get it. I'm about 5 miles too far to the east. Programmes don't look up to much but the best of luck to the new station

The launch of STV Glasgow was a short item on the North edition of STV News!

Good start but trying to be like This Morning with a Hub section.

Watching the launch and as predicted it's the usual STV two couches overlooking the Clyde. Looks kind of OK but it won't distract me from Reporting Scotland and I doubt if The Riverside Show will tempt many from Emmerdale, The One Show or Eastenders. After 45 minutes worth of the opening show I can't imagine making The Riverside Show a regular viewing appointment.

Early days but the channel looks young and vibrant and the local advertisers seem to be ones that would be able to afford big budget STV/ITV1 campaigns. It's low budget local TV produced by Scotland's biggest commercial broadcaster and they just might be the best option to deliver something reasonable as long as expectations are not too high.

I felt it was more like a scottish version of The One Show but with a kitchin thrown in. Two hours seem too long although it could air at teatime, break for the local news at six & return at 6.30 for an hour.

My only gripe would be them cutting into the ad breaks or returning to the programmes. Even the 10pm news had a problem at the break but other than that I quite enjoyed it.
In terms on entertainment & live news then judging by tonight they have raised the bar & its hard to see other operators coming close.

I've manually added stv Glasgow (successfully) but my very old sky viewing card is no longer recognised in my sky digital box. Does anyone know if a sky viewing card needs to be registered to the Glasgow area to work, or could I get a new viewing card which would work up here in Aberdeen to view stv Glasgow? Broadband speed is so slow here that watching online is a non-starter. Glasgow ex-pat, hence the interest.

any working card will do. I am just outside Aberdeen and use a Freesatfromsky card and tuned it in using other channels.

Small town identity is important to people that live near to a big city. Do people in Bromsgrove, Redditch, Wolverhampton and Walsall consider themselves to be part of Birmingham?”

I am Ayrshire born and bred and am still proud to live there. That said I am also proud to have Glasgow as my closest and most accesible city for shopping and socialising. We have much in common and I feel that much of the West of Scotland will view STV Glasgow as a 'local' tv station.

Thanks Wigam - I guess I need to buy an up to date viewing card then!

This station hasn't shown up on Virgin. Is STV Glasgow only available to viewers in Glasgow itself? I'm only 20 miles from there. Good that we can watch it online though.

Good question. The programme guide doesn't even seem to be included on the TV Listings section of STV's own website.

I was in Falkirk over the past few days and was surprised to see the channel on Sky 117 there even though it's closer to Edinburgh than Glasgow.

Watched for 10 minutes, got bored, turned off.

Nothing on Freeview 23 here in Stirling. I guess it is transmitted from Blackhill ?

I am warming to STV Glasgow now. Some nice nostalgia on this afternoon and for a low budget offering it looks quite polished. The STV archive has made a huge difference to this local channel and it's hard to imagine how anyone but STV could have delivered anything quite as comprehensive.
