I liked the last batch of Family Affairs credits before it ended.

Also used to like the Emmerdale titles in the 1990s.

I know the question is opening credits and not closing, but for closing you can't really beat this

I like EE and HO.
Cant stand the new CS one the older version was the best IMO, better than EE's one.

As much as i like and enjoy it, that fact that people can be on the show for weeks even months and be regulars and they dont even update it to show them or leave the show and no change does get a bit silly.
Also why Dirk doesnt have a solo one is beyond me.

On the subject of closing credits (although I know this thread is about the subject of opening credits, so its going a little bit off-topic, sorry).

The longer Eastenders closing credits that are used when the full cast and crew is listed (which probably averages once every 4, 5 or 6 episodes) are ones that I quite like - as this is a longer version which lasts around 30 seconds longer (which is exactly the same EE theme tune of "Anyone Can Fall In Love").

Quite like this and always watch and listen out for it (which is usually around once a week, but is sometimes actually less often than this).

The longer version of the closing credits and the theme that I've described was just used (as it usually is) on the EE omnibus episode, in fact.

Eastenders. Unlike the others it hasn't completely changed beyond recognition yet it's still "modernised".

EE's opening is classic and timeless in its recognizability - it works for the show.

Both Neighbours and Hollyoaks' openings are good.

I liked Home & Away's opening credits from the mid-late 90s. It's a shame the current PTB don't see the opening credits as being a part of the show's identity. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jUFYj2L4Ng4

I used to like Family Affairs' last opening sequence: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qAgqwhT7wiU

Sunset Beach's was great, too (some argue the original theme was best): Original version / Second version

The Bold & the Beautiful's classic 80s-90s photo opening was the best: 90s version / 2013 version

You're spot on with these three. There is something very strong and solid about the EE opening even though it is quite simple.

I loved the music from the first opening of Sunset Beach but the visuals were pretty ordinary. The second version of the credits was much more colourful and energetic.

The original opening for The Bold and the Beautiful was the best. It was very of it's time and reminded me of the Miami Vice titles. The current version is so watery and lacks the energy of the original.

Surely it has to be Hollyoaks they change and make and actual effort with theres monthly at least.

I must admit, the current credits are terrible though, they need a longer theme as it is all rushed and new entries are boring in it.

I always preferred the second version. Much more lively.

But the American soaps always make me laugh when they have these cheesy poses for the cast in the titles.

I always liked EastEnders ones from the late 90's, before it was changed to include the millennium dome.

I also liked Family Affairs last titles, plus the theme tube.

Also Brooksides for the 20th, also mentioned.

Corrie's current sequence with the OLD music:

Someone on YouTube paired them up to make an ideal opening sequence of the new visuals with old music.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iPIcOxS10H0

The new Corrie music is crap, really PARPy, with crap 'end of part 1' replacement music and rubbish ending.

The older EastEnders titles had better music and visuals, much stronger DOOF DOOF, the Thames looking less ridiculous/blue, without the silly clouds, and I much preferred the 'wipe up' of the title.

Emmerdale 2005-2009

Amazing music, great visuals, amazing end music as well with the WHOOOOOSH.

In summary - all of them used to be better. Only the current Corrie VISUALS are better than the past.

I think Sunset Beach's second version captured what the show was all about with the sultry poses, vibrant colour and energy. You're right about the original version being pedestrian.

With B&B, the original opening wasn't just energetic, it was colourful and highlighted the show's sex appeal - sex being a pretty major theme throughout B&B's history - as well as showcasing the fashion aspect. The 2005-2011 version was dark, lifeless, prudish and "anti-fashion". The current one has recaptured the fashion aspect, but like you say, it's slow, and is too dark, and lacks any form of sex appeal, which is still a major theme within modern B&B. It's very un-B&B in so many ways.

I think the theme to The Young and the Restless is like EE: timeless and instantly recognizable (for those that know about Y&R); they haven't messed with the opening sequence too much, either: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tEFwOxQETl8

How do people think these old Emmerdale openings compare to the current one?
ED: 1992-93 open
ED: 1999 open
ED: 2005-2010 open

They're all better.

The 1999 is the best by far, I loved the 'random faces' (though Jack/Sarah Sugden seem to be in there) and the music is simply brilliant.

The 2005-2010 were more boring visually, but still good, but the music was a bit TOO cinematic compared to the 1999 version.

Shortland Street's theme tune I really liked, even though I saw it only a few times. It stuck in my head.

Neighbours in the 90s was great, not so bad now either, the rockier version of H&A was good, Early Hollyoaks were the best 90s to early 00's now its just shit though, and the daddy of them all Eastenders, duff duff.

I love these 2 Hollyoaks titles. I wish Hollyoaks would get rid of the cheesy current titles and make something like these.

Aren't they the same? I agree though, loved those more than the cheap cast-in-poses Desperate Housewives-esque opening and weird logo.
