Gos without Cameron/Steph.
I think Gos was able to be a lad with Ray/Scott/Federico, but he gradually gravitated towards a more adult group with Cameron/Steph and ended up a bit too withdrawn and serious for my liking. It's more Cameron than Steph, because like Gos, when the time for fun was there Steph knew how to let loose and have some fun (she probably got more hammered than anyone). Victor without Jason. They could both get pretty would up when it came to the game but I think the difference between them was that Victor could actually separate personal feelings from the game (tactically nominating Dan/Vanessa while Jason was gleefully waiting for Marco and Nadia to be up). Victor was able to drop his guard down and have fun with the group but Jason didn't have the social skills for that and gradually brought Victor down as the weeks went by. Although in the end, Jason was smart just to sit back and allowed Victor to talk himself out of the house. Karly without Lisa. I wasn't really that impressed with Karly, I just think she was sour and liked a good moan. However, sitting with Lisa was probably not a good idea as it gave her too much time to observe and think when she could have been with much livelier housemates and not constantly venting. BB11 without John James I've never seen a housemate so in-control of a series and what made it worse is that he didn't even seem to enjoy it half the time. It was very draining to watch. Louise without Jay Initially she seemed very smart and switched on, but then it's like she wanted to jump on the 'showmance' bandwagon. I felt like she dulled her shine to be a good fit for Jay and became more and more clueless and simple. Caroline without Conor or infact a solid group of Insiders I thought she had the potential to be an interesting and unique character, but she seemed so desperate to be a part of the popular group. So she tried her best to be associated with people like Conor and mocked anyone who wasn't in the in-group. It was really quite a sad state of affairs to see that sort of attitude and sure enough she took the fall before the people she aspired to be like. In a way, despite the tightness between the two, the Jungle cats kind of played each other. As for Caroline, that should be a lesson to her not to be a sheep in life, she should have her own mind and not be a weak individual. |

Re. Vanessa and Craig without Lesley - we did see them both for a good while without her in the house and I preferred them both without her - I started liking Vanessa more when she was with Makosi and Kemal and I never liked Craig much - although he was more entertaining with his love for Anthony than he was when with Lesley.

Re Lesley and Sam - I only have the HL show to go off but it seemed just Lesley with the attacks - Craig and Vanessa would often bitch too but never seemingly nasty to her face. Of course there was the make up bag night - in which I', happy to admit I was let down by my favourite, Makosi by just laying there and let it happen but then the next week Makosi and Kemal were including her and treating her really well. Who was the group that was "always against Sam"? ...
I don't think it makes sense to draw such fine distinctions. Normally when an unpleasant group of HMs is targeting a HM, breaking the rules to be sure they're agreed on nominating her, nastily bitching for hours day after day, taking and hiding her things (which started well before the night they hid her makeup bad), and saying they want to make her life hell and make her cry, people don't think that only the one who makes the nastiest, most direct moves is involved. It was never just Sam vs Lesley. Lesley always had a group behind her, backing her up, encouraging her, approving, and putting in unpleasant remarks of their own. It wasn't always the exact same list of people in the group, but it was never a 1-on-1 conflict; it was always a group against Sam.

I don't think he was particularly forthright in regards to Grace. I can think of two occasions when he didn't like what she did - one was when the girls were hating on Susie but Grace had to practically drag that opinion out of him when she asked him what was wrong and he still felt bad for criticizing them. The other was when Grace returned to the house when Pete hid in the bathroom until she was gone.
A fairly weak and spineless way of going about it. I am sure I read on here that he was held over from BB6 because they felt the house was too harsh for him. If so, they were quite right. He needed a kind house. |

Pete couldn't bear confrontation, no. I think it is too harsh to call him 'weak and spineless'. It was a house of rather damaged people, and there are worse characteristics than being afraid of rows.

After all the 'Get Grace out' chants from the eviction crowd, to then think that if these members of crowd were in the house that they'd then act the same as Pete towards Grace and shy away from confrontation, they would be a bit hypocritical. |

All BB8 housemates without Carole, she really suppressed the mood and personalities of the house it could have been so much more lively without her.

My least favourite series. You can keep Makosi, Kinga and Science if you give up everyone else.
You and me both. Truly awful set of HMs. Worst final ever. Worst winner ever. Nasty. |

Nicole without Rex. She was so sour and miserable in the house and yet as soon as she left she suddenly became pleasant, bubbly, all smiles and a seemingly fun and likeable person (eg in the interview, during the next few days on BOTS or whatever it was then). I know she didn't audition and didn't really want to be there but it would have been nice to see that likeable side of Nicole.

Nicky Maxwell without Carole, Ziggy and Gerry.
I make no secret of the fact Nicky is one of my favourite housemates of all time (I'm not ashamed I tells ya!) but can admit that by the end of her run she was pretty miserable on an almost constant basis... but, considering the fact she had Mama Carole and her Boyz out to get to her, it's no surprise really. Carole seemed to resent the prettier, younger Nicky trying to wrestle the kitchen (which was pretty much all Carole offered to a house that was scared of) out of her hands, and as such, she lead a nasty campaign against Nicky. Couple that with Ziggy taking a bizarre dislike to her and Gerry just following orders, it's not a shock that she became pretty subdued (even for Nicky standards) in her last few days. I'd have loved to have seen her in a lighter, less "dominated" house (such as BB9 or 10- which, although had their faults and divides, were immeasurably better thanks solely to the lack of Carole) to see how she'd have coped. Putting a renowned man hater in a house with all women would, you'd think, been a perfect move but I think a lot of Nicky's "hatred" of relationships came from bad past experiences- and the peacocking dullards that were the (straight) male population of BB8 probably didn't do anything to bolster her self confidence/ |

Agree on Nicky. There was a few times when she could be a bit grumpy, but I felt sorry for her during her last week. She was trying to avoid drama and confrontation but then there was Gerry and Ziggy openly riling her up and mocking her when they knew they were stuck in the same room together. I can't really say that too many eviction results are totally wrong but Nicky going against Gerry still irks me to this day. The only way I could really feel satisfied with that result was thinking that Nicky probably wouldn't have had much fun if she stayed anyway and it allowed Gerry to embarrass himself falling on his sword for Carole a few weeks later.
I couldn't bear Gerry as, despite trying to come across noble and wise, there was a real childish spiteful snarl to him, so anyone against him usually earned my favour. lol |

One that comes to mind for me is Corin from BB11 without JJ2.
As I wanted her to win that series and going by the polls and betting odds etc, it looked like she was on her way to doing so, I felt her association with him after he’d entered the house later on, made her chances dwindle somewhat. This being due to the fact that she started getting criticism from some viewers for supposedly getting too close and attached with him. We ended up seeing less of that fun, comedic side on her own that viewers warmed to as most of the focus from then on that was shown of her and discussed seemed to be connected with him. For me he kind of got in the way of her otherwise successful and trouble-free time in the house. And surely Corin winning would have been a better result than Josie winning? |

BB11 Come to think of it, he'd still be a fool. |
