why do people hate on the school?

Some people hate on this school, because they assume if you go to the school, you are automatically bound to be up for a brit and maybe even win, whether they truly deserve it or not.

I think it's because in recent years well not so much recently a wave of successful artists emerged from there and went on to great success leading some people to cry nepotism.

Not sure about the the music teaching, but the students get a lot of public performance opportunities. IIRC that's the only state funded music school in UK.

There are 4 other Music Schools (also accepts International students) but mainly Classical music focussed. Fees are up to £32,000 but talented UK students would get full bursary from Department of Education. Some are successful, but not enough exposure as mainstream artists.

Don't the BRIT awards fund the school in some way?

The embarrassingly awful name for a start.

The school is funded for by the Government, British Record Industry, and a yearly whip round and is the only stage school that is free to attend. And I don't think there is a direct link between winning an award and having attended there are plenty of people who have success across the last few years that have never attended and done well.

And acts like Adele, Amy etc worked long and hard after graduation to get their recognition. Attending does not equate success. Italia conti, Sylvia young all produce some major talent too.

Discover or nurture talent. Not sure it can just be produced.

Well through discovering it and nurturing it on graduation they have produced some major talents .

It all depends on who you ask.

The problem with it is that it produces sound-alikes. It always will cos songwriting should be a talent which isn't taught but naturally inside you. Going to a stage school teaches you all aspects of writing and performing, which is fine if you want to watch fakeness. Performing should come naturally otherwise its all just fake

To learn the essentials of your craftsmanship in a school is faking, well, so I assume the

performances of a Beethoven and Bach were the biggest faking of all.

Well, at least, Adele didn't make ads for butter like Johnny Rotten ops Lydon

You always hear of successful females who've gone the stage school route (Amy, Adele, etc..) but never really the males. Are there any?

Really? Adele, Jessie J and Amy Winehouse don't sound the same to me !

Yep loads but not necessarily solo singers. I can think of at least two boy band members

Rizzle Kicks and think I read somewhere one of the Vamps went there but need to check

I agree that talent is a natural gift that can't be taught, but don't have a problem with someone who wants to study at places like the Brit school to get help and guidance in how to use their talents to the best potential. It wouldn't put me off an artist anyway, put it like that.
