From BBC Worldwide's point of view, it would be an appalling idea which would alienate the massive worldwide audience.

Bear in mind that many children will regard Smith, Tennant or even Eccleston as their Doctor. Doctor Who belongs to them just as much as it does to someone who can name the Floor Manager on The Macra Terror.

Those kids will be around when we're dead. Then it will be their turn to moan about how the 2052 revival is not 'canon' because Romeo Beckham lacks the gravitas to be the 19th Doctor.

Seriously? This just has to be a wind up surely?
You really think that the BBC should overturn everything we've had since 2005. A period when Doctor Who has been way more popular, at home and worldwide, than it has ever been?
Things move on. Much as I love Tom Baker's time as the Doctor there's no way I'd want the show to be like that now. My children watch the old DVDs with me and they seem to enjoy them, partly to humour me perhaps, but they REALLY enjoy the 21st century series. That is Doctor Who to them.
This programme is enjoyed by millions of people around the world and the vast majority of them are not obsessive fans, just ordinary people who like to watch good TV. The day the programme makers pander to nit picking fans is the day Doctor Who dies. Look what happened in the 1980s!

Seriously! Get off my back and quit replying to my posts!

Nothing wrong with the 1980s and many fans would love Doctor Who to be like the Tom baker years.

Its not alienating them but making sure that time war doctor & metabelis fake regen isnt a bad thing. Least then it would correct them properly so fans can say Capaldi is the Twelfth Doctor instead of fans saying no he isnt hes the Fourteenth.

Even moffatt said in the past he did the Time War doctor to mess with fans about cannon.

Messing with fans isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Besides, Capaldi is known as the Twelfth Doctor. He's the twelfth actor to hold a permanent position as the leading character in Doctor Who. (Hurndall and Hurt were guests in other Doctors' stories.) The character is also the twelfth incarnation to go by the name Doctor. He is the Twelfth Doctor. He will be referred to as the Twelfth Doctor on official merchandise and reference material.

There's no credible way to remove the War Doctor without rewriting the entire history of Doctors Nine to Twelve.

Plus, let's face it, the numbering is only really used by fans. To the general audience, Peter Capaldi is simply THE Doctor.

This is a public forum. If you post anything here then you should expect replies. This is both reasonable and fair. If you don't want people to reply then don't post. Simple.
I'm certainly not on your back, nor anyone else's. But I will reply to posts if I choose to.

My point about the 1980s was that the seeds of Doctor Who's demise in 1989 were sown when JNT and his team(s) began to listen to fan opinion.
