EE Don't deserve 'Best Soap' THIS year.....
Eastenders is without doubt the best soap again on TV. But I do feel like everyone is saying it should clean up at the British Soap awards, fair enough in some categories, but not Best Soap. EMMERDALE was on flying form last year with the whole Cameron saga and it made unmissable viewing, and they've done some amazing work. BUT EE was in a bad place at that time, and only turned around at Christmas time - while Emmerdale was still going strong, so hopefully Emmerdale will be recognised a lot too......and EE will certainly clean up maybe this year, but definitely next year too at the rate its going....

I thing this year, its' can go either way!, Even dales have chance this year!
All soaps Have had there up and down in the last 12 months Corrie and EE, most of there category for last 5 months I think (2014) Oaks and Dales both (both for last 12 months) Not sure about doctors1 |

The past Six months EE has been good but not the six month previous, so no I agree they shouldn't win THIS year Not watched Emmerdale in years but I know the story lines have been good and the Calvin? story lines made really good viewings. Corrie story lines have been getting worse over past six months and will probably continue to do so for a while so they definitely don't deserve to win. Don't Watch Hollyoaks anymore and never watch Doctors. So my vote goes to Elmerdale.

If it was just from 2014 onwards, EE would deserve to win, but for 2013 it doesn't.

Realistically, Best Soap is always between EastEnders and Corrie. I'd say that since the last soap awards, Corrie had a strong first 6 months and then a weaker 6 have followed. EastEnders however, had a poor (unwatchable) first 6 months, followed by a much stronger 6 months.
It depends how fickle the voters are. I do think EE currently deserves the Best Soap title, but it depends if voters remember we are voting for a 12 month stretch, half of which was diabolical for EE (which I say as an avid supporter) |

Without a shadow of a doubt EastEnders has been the best British soap on TV since Christmas 2013 therefore it would be deserving of winning the Best soap prize tonight even if it did have a diabolical 6 months prior to Christmas, because it's still head and shoulders above the other four.
Here's hoping EE wins big tonight, it'll be great to keep the current momentum and profile the show is currently keep going. |

I'd say the majority of voters are young people, especially since a lot of the votes come from online sources and both Eastenders and Coronation Street have what I'd call a predominantly young audience in comparison to Emmerdale. Quite simply by the nature of the beast though since it's down to public votes Eastenders and Coronation Street will always be the main two contenders for soap of the year. I don't think Eastenders should necessarily win myself but I'd he shocked if it wasn't between the two

The year runs may to may. Right until The start of November EastEnders was shit. Emmerdale had a good May to October but after the flood and death of Cameron the show started to enter a lull. Corrie was flying high until the death of Hayley in January. Hollyoaks has had plenty of threads with Fans moaning for the last few months.
Therefore Doctors should win because once again it's been the most consistent with only the odd poor week here or there. I am rooting for EastEnders it's turned it's self around and has people talking again. After last year's no awards (Except a well deserved Lifetime award for Adam Woodyatt' I feel EastEnders deserves it as much as any soap. |

However the whole 'Young people voting' is rubbish given last years performance. |

It'll be between Coronation Street and EastEnders, as it always is ...I have the feeling that EastEnders will nab it this year. There's a lot of excitement surrounding the show again with the new Carter family and Lucy's death and I can see that translating into votes, especially as these things have happened on the show so recently.
Coronation Street is still going strong (not as weak as people make out here in my opinion) but I don't think it's riding as high as last year. Last year, we had the Kirsty/Tyrone plot and the Rovers fire happening just before the awards and that put the show in a strong light for a lot of voters. In comparison, EastEnders had nothing much happening at all. If Tina's exit happened before the awards, I would say the show would have a stronger chance of picking up Best Soap again. I personally think Emmerdale deserves it this year though. |

No doubt the receiver of the award that people on here will complain most about is Michelle Keegan winning sexiest female over Jacqueline Jossa. As per usual

I've been supporting Oaks and I hope they win some awards, I know I'm in the minority who thinks they deserve it, not sure if they are going to do well. However I think EE deserves more than one award, it is better than last yr but not perfect (none of the soaps are) good luck to all of them.

It's split between Emmerdale and EastEnders for me. The last six months EE has been great but from last summer Emmerdale was killing it.
So either or, really. |

I'd love to see Emmerdale clinch it but sadly I can never see it happen.

Thing is, EastEnders has been good for the majority of the last twelve months. So although 2013 as a whole wasn't good, the majority of this year HASN'T been good, so it does deserve it in my eyes.

People don't tend to think like that, though. They just think 'which soap am I enjoying the most right now'? I thought this when I voted, and I went for Eastenders, based on what I think of it right now. I was voting Corrie this time last year.

I completely agree OP, but the soap awards don't always reflect what SHOULD win.

I'd say it's been good since the end of October, so 7 months. It got my vote anyway.

I agree OP EE has been fantastic since Christmas but Emmerdale and Corrie are more deserving due to the Cameron and Hayley story lines.
EE will clean up NEXT year if there is justice; not this year. But don't underestimate the amount of hype Jan-May EE could have made, at least in the viewer votes. |

I don't think eastenders have deserved it either but I can only base it on the episodes I have watched as I stopped a while ago now, I did watch the Lucy murder and to me it's no different to any other soap. Strength wise I think Hollyoaks deserve it, however I won't lose any sleep if eastenders do win lol
