HDD recorders with scart socket
Just bought the LG HRH939M but to my dismay there is no scart socket (I wanted to transfer video recordings from my Panasonic *VHS/HDD/DVD - yes, I should have done my home work first!). Other than the Panasonic 735 (discontinued now) is there a 1TB HDD with a scar on the market? I suppose I could connect the LG to my TV, do a time record and then take out the HDMI and shove that in the Panasonic VHS/HDD/DVD?
* Beofre someone tells m (!) I can;t do a direct record from VHS to HDD cos the latter is full to capacity! Cheers! |

Can you confirm the model number of the LG as the only hit on Google is this thread!
What type of device is it? If it is a Freeview PVR (no DVD recorder built in) then it won't have any ability to record any external sources at all. And you cannot plug the HDMI from the LG into the Panasonic. That will end in tears. For a kick off they are both outputs so won't work transferring video from one device to another anyway. And as they are outputs both carry a 5V DC supply which you do not want to connect together! In any case even if either device had a HDMI Input you would not be able to use as HDCP would kick in to prevent you copying copyright material (ie TV progs) |

* http://www.johnlewis.com/lg-hr939m-s...-black/p456132 )Anyway. As with pretty much all Freeview PVRs it has no ability to record anything other than Freeview. The same would be true if you did buy a Freeview PVR with a SCART. The SCART is only wired to output from the PVR to a telly. Not to record stuff from another source. If you want HDD and record from external sources there are few options other than a DVD recorder with built in hard drive. |

Or I might keep it only cos I can't be bothered to send it back as a result of having vouchers! I suppose I could use it to simply record from TV and do HDD to DVD - and use my other units for archiving videos. Thanks for your contributions.

...um, a closer look suggests you can't even do that - transfer from HDD to DVD!

As I said in post #4, it appears to be a BD player only - there's certainly no suggetsion of recording in the link you posted.
"A guide to Blu-ray Disc technology Blu-ray laser technology gives you much greater storage on just one disc. For example, one Blu-ray disc holds the equivalent of 35 CDs’ or 5 DVDs’ worth of storage. It’s the same size as a DVD disc, but by using a shorter wavelength and a narrower (blue) laser beam spot, it can hold greater capacity" Which although correct is IMHO misleading and irelevant information to give about an item which is a player only. The info would be more appropriate if the item was a recorder |

Part of the spec in the link says;

HR939M 1TB Recordable Blu-ray DIsc™ Player
And the Technical Specs are about as much use as a chocolate fireguard when it comes to clarifying things. You have to read the manual to discover it can't actually record to anything other than the hard drive.

Look at the online versions of manuals on the manufacturers website to check what devices can and can't do.
