Before 2011 people use to talk about eastenders but now no one really like it as they used to. I cannot believe eastenders only two awards as well from now onwards eastenders shouldn't disappoint viewers and hope the current storyline is good because people in social media are very angry about and they even saying hollyoaks is better than eastenders. It the bbc fault this has happened

Agreed EastEnders has been shocking for ages, I don't know how they got away with some of the stuff for years, remember the Max being buried alive crap? Danny Dyer also makes me feel ill.

At the same time, there needs to be rules regarding social media voting and internet voting.

Its Lorraine Newmans fault really!

I hope EE do not try an imitate Hollyoaks sexy and cant act characters, we don't need any more Tyler and Joey's on the show!

I hope EE up their game on storylines, characters etc!

That happened under Kirkwood's reign, thankfully he's long gone!

Such OTT guff.

It's the Soap Awards, not the Oscars.

Viewing figures are fine, nothing's in danger.

Opinion is always mixed about EE, it had a bad three year run under the previous EP, it's improved ten folds and still is, it won no awards last year, two is better the nothing for the moment.

I think a lot of EE fans was realistic that it probably wouldn't do as good this year, despite the massive turn around, it's ratings are gaining steadily and consistently and people are talking about it again, it's winning back viewers but it still has a way to go, like I said the soap awards are unpredictable and doesn't reflect everything.

Hollyoaks still has a relatively small viewer ship but a bigger presence online with the younger viewers, it made a huge effort with it's voting campaign and if the rumors are true paid off but it doesn't mean the show isn't having problems itself, EE made a better effort this year with social media and hopefully will take it on board and do better next year.

Hollyoaks is still the lowest rated soap out of them all, that includes Doctors, so I wouldn't be laughing if I was them.

EastEnders main problem is that the BBC buried their heads in the sand for too long. It feels a bit unjust that BK is enjoying so much success at Hollyoaks when the damage he caused to EE is still being felt.

So true. Holloyoaks might have won just because they were really pushing for votes on social media.

A few opinions of the minority does not reflect not the majority, EE still average 6-7 million ratings this is just aired episodes, Hollyoaks average is 900k-1mill if they lucky per episode, I see positive/negative tweets about EE and the same for Hollyoaks, on the scale of things doesn't mean much, just like opinions on here doesn't reflect everything.

Coronation Street ‏@corriespoil 2m

For the first time in its history, #Hollyoaks won the award for best soap at BSA. Were not annoyed, we're just pleased it wasn't Eastenders😜

EE have quite obviously lost their hardcore fans in the last few years, I remember Lacey Turner used to win for sneezing infront of the camera at these things.

He's caused god knows how much damage at Hollyoaks in the last 18 months so his success is baffling.

The same twitter page has a Eastenders one @eespoil and just retweets the corrie page stuff, pointless.

I am just wondering if perhaps her time has past now, absolutely ridiculous to nominate her for best actress after about 20 minutes worth of appearances

What a load of rubbish. They have all been at it. Hollyoaks begged for votes - but so did the other soaps. Difference is they have more viewers and Hollyoaks have less.

Nah, she was on the show for about two weeks and people still voted enough for her to make the short list. If anything, it just shows how popular she is. It's the other perceived popular characters I'd worry more about, namely the Carters.

Eastenders put her forward onto the short list did they not although I may be wrong

Not being naive. Hollyoaks get around around 500-700k for the E4 episode, 800k-1 Million for C4, and 100k each for time shifts. Then catch up on 4oD and recording services. 2 million per episode sounds about right.
