Did they get Best Soap right?
Well the soap awards no doubt will have left most people in utter dam god shock!
I am dumbfounded at the results. It's time for good old DS poll to see people's opinions. Best Soap went to Hollyoaks - sorry but it didn't deserve it. The most shocking award for me was Maddie for best newcomer!!!!!! WTF???? Emmerdale was by far the best soap of last year and Eastenders performance over the past few months has been on top bloody form. Emmerdale should have won for it's performance for last year! Hollyoaks is watchable yes, but it isn't great! It's viewing figures are terrible! Maddie is the worst soap character ever created in soap blinking history! I'd be interested to know how many people actually voted for best soap. Well that's my opinion. What is yours? Did you vote? Did the right soap win? |

I voted Hollyoaks and hubby voted Corrie.
I feel Hollyoaks deserved it, they have some amazing actors right now and they storylines have been great. Emmerdale have had a good year and it's a shame they didn't win more. Corrie also had a good year but has lagged abit over the last couple of months, I stopped watching eastenders a while ago as it went crap and started watching again when Lucy was murdered, it's been ok but for me, Hollyoaks have been on top this year.

No, it most certainly didn't and there's something highly suspicious about the whole thing. I'm also completely dumbfounded at the result as I've never been able to take Hollyoaks seriously as a soap, because it's just drivel when all is said and done. Perfectly coiffed and beautiful young men and women who wear full faces of perfectly applied make up at all times, no one over the age of about 25, terrible acting, ludicrous story lines that border into Sunset Beach territory. It's not a reflection of real life which is what soaps are supposed to be.
I'd be gutted if I was Emmerdale because if anyone should have snatched the best soap award from the "big two" it SHOULD have been them! Disgraceful result, obviously down to teens will too much money and time in their hands. |

If any soap was going to upset the big two it should have been Emmerdale. At least that gets similar ratings. Hollyoaks barely gets 1 million on a good day. |

To me it's like Sun set beach winning over Dallas, the acting on Hollyoaks is terrible!
I watch Hollyoaks and it's ok for laugh but you cant take the show seriously. |

All the corrie, easties, emmerdale and doctors fans will all group together and will say no so this poll is hardly fair and is biased against hollyoaks. A poll listing the soaps and asking which one should have won would be a bit better.

Personally, I think that, broadly, the standard of most soaps is the same. Ridiculous, contrived storylines, melodramatic acting, characters doing things they wouldn't normally do, huge coincidences, bumping into other characters in the street, totally unrealistic etc etc. That is not to say that they are not popular, but it should be left at that. The idea of having awards is a bit pathetic and embarrassing. The Tallest Dwarf Syndrome. Therefore, Best Soap doesn't really mean anything. Just an embarrassing evening of mutual appreciation and self congratulations.

I hope Hollyoaks don't announce themselves as the 3rd soap and try to push Emmerdale into 4th place.

Yes. They have recently been doing some powerful storylines; Sienna's mental health problems, JP rape, Maxine/Patrick domestic violence.

![]() Sunset Beach was such an original idea and satirize the soap genre by going completely ott! as Hit Em Up Style said, that was the point. In this clip linked below which is less than one minute, you see a soap fantasy and the breaking of the fourth wall! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7qVrt8wJBRI Back to the question - Yes. Hollyoaks got the most votes so they should have won. I'm not denying that the fans might have created multiple email accounts to vote more than once but i'm not going to deny neither the prospect that fans of the other soaps could and would have done the same thing too. |

They are far, far from the third soap! They barely scrape a million viewers and doesn't Neighbour on Five out rate them as well? So if you were counting the foreign imports then that would make Hollyoaks the fifth soap!
Let them enjoy their moment, but they don't deserve it at all. Its just strange. I could probably accept Hollyoaks winning if it wasn't for that. Quote:

I agree! Why in the few posts so far here has Sunset Beach been getting negative comments?

I think the problem I have with Hollyoaks winning is that its Bryan Kirkwood. This is the man who destroyed EEs heart and ripped out its soul. It feels wrong he is now being rewarded for his work on another soap.
Its just strange. SB will always have a place in my heart because of Terror Island, The earthquake/Tidal Wave, Ben's twin and those cursed jewels! lol those were the days. ![]()

I thinks it's more the most popular show, the fact that it's so OTT is what people love about it. I have enjoyed watching it lately but it's Anna Passey who made it worth watching to me.
I used to love Eastenders when Lacey was first in it and would have gladly voted them to win if it had been similar to it was back then. |

Hollyoaks is the worst it has ever been, winning now will only make it even more awful because Birkwood will think he's doing a good job!
They won because twitter had been spammed with the link to vote for hollyoaks, not to mention the begging on Facebook from the official fan page, and the request to vote for hollyoaks at the end of every episode for the past month! These soap awards really are meaningless in the grand scheme of things . |

If Hollyoaks had won best soap in 2008 or 2013 then yes but for last year's dire quality? No way. This time last year I would have been over the moon to see my favourite soap win but I'm mortified that the soap I loved has declined in quality so much and has picked up this undeserved accolade.
