DTC and his long running stories.
Don't get me wrong I am loving EE at the minute and how DTC and his team have turned this show around compared to what it was last year. However I am a bit concerned that his over reliance on long running stories could alienate viewers.
We already knw that the Lucy murderer reveal will not be for another 9 months, and from what I can gather, mick carter will not find out that Shirley is his mum until Christmas (Danny dyer mentioned something on the red carpet at the BSA's last night). Whilst I can see that there can be many T&T's in these storylines I have a fear the audience will get bored, and not care less when it comes to the reveal. I don't want the stories to be over in a few weeks, but would it not be better to do the Lucy reveal around Christmas and the carter reveal around September? I just think with the advent of twitter, Facebook and alike, people don't want to wait too long to find out things. They want too know ASAP. I'm sure DTC knws what he is doing and I really hope it works for EE. There is in denying he loves the show, and only wants what's best for it. He works damn hard. |

I wouldn't take what those say on facebook and twitter too seriously about soaps. They're not best known for thier patience.
EE has always thrived on long running stories. When you look at Sharongate, Stax, You aint my Muvva, they've all gone over for a year. I think the important thing when planning stories for this length of time is to keep the audience interested. I understand the Lucy story is testing peoples patience here but at least we know there are twists and turns to come. Also there is the Carter story to play out and then of course other stories involving Patrick and Shabnam to come. |

I really don't see the need to drag out the Carter reveal until Christmas. The aftermath and entanglements can let alone set them up for months of storylines, as it effects the whole family.
I can understand why they wouldn't reveal it anytime soon because ratings are generally low during the summer months, but September/October would off been a lot better. |

If they were relying on those two s/ls to keep people hooked then you'd be right, it wouldn't work. But we have:
Charlie/Dot/Yvonne and the missing Nick. Carol's cancer and the exit of David, Bianca &co. Lee's return Ben's return Kat and Alfie's twins....bound to be some drama there Stacey and Jean's return The mystery of Aleks |

I think DTC wanted to give other characters storylines first and slowly building up to the Shirley/Mick reveal.
The Lucy storyline will drag on till February 2015 but DTC is going to give other characters big storylines. Eg: Patrick, Sharon/Phil, Kat/Alfie (when the babies are born), Stacey's permanent return etc. |

I think as long as DTC gets the balance right it will be fine i.e. not dropping one of the storylines for a month then having it majorly featuring the next month, to then drop it again... viscous circle :P And something EastEnders has done far too much in its history.

Not to mention Cindy Jr's pregnancy. Even though it seems that TJ is sticking around, it just seems far too much like a normal teenage pregnancy at the moment.

I would have thought the shows figures would av improved more by now tho, but it is still sometimes getting below 7m. Next week won't be much better as it is up against BGT.
I'm ok with them playing over time, just hope all the teams hard work pays off with an increase in viewers for the show and maybe a few awards. I knw the show still has room for improvement, but never before have I seen a soap improve so quickly as they have done with EE. |
