If he is being killed off, I don't like the way DTC is taking the soap,

They would be stupid to kill David off but it wouldn't surprise me if they did. He isn't a Carter or Branning after all and he is a link to the past that they seem to want to pretend never existed.

I want him to marry Carol on his deathbed but he might not die. He could survive and he and Carol might just go their separate ways. She might feel that because she was so sure that he had done a runner (even though he hadn't) that this proves that she does not really trust him and so she cannot take the chance on marrying him. Or, he could just think life is too short to hang around Walford and take to the road again. I would hate either of those things to happen but I can see that they could.

It would be a very poignant end to their love story if he realises he is dying and marries Carol before he does. I would have to be swept up off the floor after it. I probably will anyway

I think David will walk after his collapse, he will realise that Walford is bad for your ticker with all the stress of living there.

I really don't want this to be the case but I think he's a goner

Well he walked away relatively easily after being run over by Janine at Christmas so, it could turn out he just had some bad indigestion

Exactly!

He was seemingly unscathed, but what if a blood clot had formed and all the stress of Carol's illness, Nikki and the wedding and then rushing about after that record just got too much and boom, a heart attack!

It's all Janine's fault!

I thought that was a great twist on the story. There was no way they could just have him leave again, and cue sixteen more years of "Bring David back!" He purposely came back for Pat's death, and they could have asked him: want us to kill David off? And he said yes. Why else would he have extended his contract for this story?

Dude wants to leave David and EE behind.

I'm not sure he will die. I think it seems to be going the way that Carol will break up with him. She will say that despite everything they are not actually compatible. She will say he hasnt grown up and isnt responsible and him running about all over the place, juggling so many things which lead to his collapse just proves this. She will say sitting in that car, waiting for him, she realised she will always be waiting for him. She will always be waiting for him to catch up, to get there, to be on her level but she now sees he never will be.

Carol is a martyr and the thing writes itself. Better than having to have yet another funeral and better than David breaking up with her. Carol will convince him he needs to go and Bianca will do the same.

Carol dumping him and him leaving all on his own would be more heartbreaking than him dying to be honest. If he dies then yes it will be heartbreaking but at least he'll die in his family's arms as a reformed man who really did love Carol. I don't know why so many people want him to leave rather than die. Obviously if he leaves then there is the possibility of a return but realistically nobody would forgive him for leaving Carol while she was ill so any possibility of a return story wise would be slim anyway. This way is probably better.

Exactly my opinion, would have been horrible if he had stood her up, this way all the doubters in the family, especially Liam, will have to think better of him that he spent the whole day searching for that record....

To be fair, they have been really good with recognising the past recently, especially in last nights episode.

It'll be sad for Carol if David dies but I can't see another way out, unless Carol goes too

The only way I could see David leaving on good terms is if the doctor tells David he must change his lifestyle completely or he'll die. No more stress, give up the business etc. Of course Carol would have to stay to complete her treatment ...

he ran away leaving two young children and a wife, he also rang away years later leaving one of those children who was mentally ill running after him crying and he didn't give a stuff. Joe was his son, Carol is just someone he is shacked up with. Nothing is beneath David, and Carol's illness wouldn't stop him leaving. This cuddly David who loves Carol is a complete re-write of history.

With all these surprise reappearences maybe we'll see Pats ghost if David goes and dies.

I don't think David will die but I have a feeling that he and Carol will make a realisation that their relationship won't work in the long-term.

And we could see Pauline's and Angie's as well. The ghosts of the 3 ladies of Albert Square

His heart attack is very reminiscent of Dereks (poor Carol, first brother Derek, now fiance David).

I agree and think that's what will happen too.

My theory is similar to some above I think that he won't die carol will realise she can't trust him as even though he didn't do a runner she thought he had and they will have a tearful farewell and he will leave. I really don't want that to happen though

I was thinking this. His near brush with death might make him reasses his priorities (again) so he leaves. I don't like the idea but it is a better option than his dying although I do think it is very likely.

Some of the spoilers for next week are intriguing and i'm sure they link in to this but I'm not sure how. Like Sonia facing a disciplinary at work and Bianca being short of money again.

It would be a daft move to kill him off

I agree he's the only reason I started watching again but I think I'd rather they killed him around his loved ones, but dark I know but how many times can he realistically come back for carol and leave. I don't think they will kill him off though if they don't least we will prob see him again which is good

If he does die I can see it going the Sonia/Jamie way in hospital. I can't really see any other outcome it would be a tad jarring if they both decide to part ways having come to certain realizations when he nearly croaked it. Bold move on DTC's part though...bitter sweet storyline and quite realistic. Sometimes people just drop dead doesn't have to have a big lead in storyline.
