Just a question, do the BSA's actually mean anything, eg, do they affect the soaps in anyway?

HO will probably see a temporary spike in ratings but apart from that, no, not really.

No, they're just a bit of fun really. But some people do seem to take the results very seriously.

fundamentally a night of appreciation for their efforts and perhaps bragging rights for the winner of best soap

Surely the 'best soap' award should go to the show that has had the most overall viewers throughout the year. Hollyoaks won best soap simply because more of their fans took part in the online vote but in actual fact its the least watched which would surely make it the 'worst soap'

Hollyoaks will keep far-fetched SLs now because they won this,

I lost a lot of my respect and appreciation for the BSAs when SAM JAMES was nominated as a villain of the year candidate yet Michael Moon was left out. No matter what you think of Michael, to consider Sam James as a bigger villain than Michael is just laughably pathetic, if the people who draw up these lists are too clueless to pay attention to things like this then how do they expect us to care

Really it's a night where the people involved in the soap from in front and behind of the cameras receive some much deserved recognition and I have no issue with that but if they're not going to take their own awards seriously then I refuse to as well. I also think that the sexiest categories are tacky and needlessly overrated, another issue I have with the BSAs

They are hardly the oscars but it shows some appreciation for the British soaps.

Actually they mean everything. In a last minute rule change, anyone who wins an award is automatically entered for the Hunger Games.

Unfortunate choice of film after what it's been associated with today.

Or alternatively, it should go to the soap that actually was the best that way. I know there's no objective way of measuring that but I'm sure if there was then Hollyoaks wouldn't have won this year

Michael Moon was never really appreciated enough by Eastenders IMO. I thought it was stupid killing him off, they should have been begging him to stay. Honestly, it looked like LN was grasping for storylines so she decided to kill the next person that was leaving. He was a pretty good character played by a really good actor.

Having said that, BSAs mean nothing IMO. I couldn't even bothered watching them to be honest. I will take a glance at who won the awards but that's about it. In about a week I will forget they ever happened.

Not at all, the NTAs BAFTAs and RTS Awards are the most prestigious in the country, BSA's are small time compared to those three.

Ratings don't always equal quality. If the rule was highest rated wins beat soap then Corrie would have won instead of Hollyoaks which would have made it boring and pedestrian rather than the shock it was with Hollyoaks winning tonight.

But they shouldn't shock just so it isn't boring, Otherwise the winner doesn't deserve it. The best should win no matter what, If that is boring then that is how it is

The best is subjective though, that's the problem, whether panel or public voted it all comes down to opinion. . And measuring the best by ratings would be a terrible way to go and very bias towards one soap.
