Another gorgeously dark tune. Guess I can see what she was talking about when she said the album is so dark its wrong but at the same time still beautiful.
The only thing I find a bit iffy about this tune is weeeell...its another of these songs she does with lyrical content suggesting she rather enjoyed being on the receiving end of a bit of smack my b*tch up in whatever past relationship she had. You're never sure whether this is 100% true (hope not), whether its some sort of artistic metaphor about the times we live in or whether she just says it to mess with peoples heads. Possibly all three.
There's also references of course in the lyrics to her album she did under the name of May Jailer which was of course "Sirens" and Tropico with the Adam and Eve line. When she says Jim I'm also not sure whether that's the boyfriend or whether she's meaning Jim Morrison who as we know is another of her much loved icons.
But all in all that's whats fun about Lana's songs. You can get your teeth into them, try and figure out what she's talking about and still probably still come nowhere near!
So if you take this, West Coast, Shades of Cool, the bit of Cruel World she's played and of course Black Beauty I think we can see Ultraviolence is shaping up very nicely indeed.
Plus hopefully she'll start playing all the new songs live soon!
