UNABLE TO UPDATE APPS ON iPAD
Paperhouse
26-05-2014
My employer has given me an iPad so that I can keep on top of my emails when away from the office. But I am unable to update Apps (Numbers, Keynote and Pages) because it asks for the Apple ID password for someone else (the previous user of the iPad I assume). Is there some way to remove the previous identity and add my own?

Not without knowing their password, no.

Presumably your HR dept will have an address/number where they can contact the ex employee who had the ipad. It should be easy enough for them to give him a call and ask what the old password is so that you can put on a new one.

Ideally what you will need to do is to reset the iPad to factory settings and set it up again with your own or the company Apple ID. You can then download Apps and get the updates.

Not sure why the company didn't do that before giving it to me. If I reset it now presumably the company homepage and the like will have to be reinstalled.

You may not even be able to do that.

If it's running iOS 7 it may have been set so that any attempt at restoring it would also ask for the Apple ID password.

I did not think it was possible to prevent a full reset - which will restore the iPad to factory settings and apps!

It can be prevented in iOS7. It's a security measure.

So I (now!!!) discover! I had thought that a DFU-mode restore would clear the problem but it seems not. People with this issue seem to say it needs Apple's help.

You can do the full restore, but if Activation Lock has been enabled you will need the Apple ID that enabled it to re-activate the device after restore.

Apple's MDM tools have an option to disallow activation lock for enterprise scenarios, and iOS 7.1 added the ability to set an override code for activation lock.

Indeed. The correct way was using the deployment tools to set up work iOS devices. But its too late for the OP. Perhaps they should take it to Apple with proof of purchase etc. ?

Which MDM is this as we use MobiIleIron and it doesn't have this feature, are you referring to the apple Configurator tool?

Can you simply not just sign the account out delete the apps and then download the apps again with your account?
