Mine came off charge 8 hours 10 minutes ago and the battery has dropped to 99% so standby times are much better.

Stock ROM using Davlik (Cant see any improvements using ART other than in your own head and in my case ART uses an extra 500MB of storage), Google Now on, WiFi on with a couple of emails collected in the night and a Three signal that's hanging on for grim death.

There are far too many events I've been to where I've never really experienced things properly because I've been taking photos or video to enjoy it 'later'.

And most phones aren't great at capturing audio in loud places. Nokia has done a lot of work. HTC has too (so much so it got into a lot of trouble with Nokia) and now LG's G3 also adapts for the ambient noise - although I've not had a chance to test it and don't know if anyone else has either yet.

It's not in your own head. It is much faster. We have 2 Nexus 5's in the house and I pitted them side by side. App opening is far faster for a start.

Agree though that the battery is much better than the nexus 4.

I made the change, and the Nexus 5 is better. 4G performance is great and the screen is better than the Nexus 4.

ART is faster precisely because of that extra storage space used up. That's the code that doesn't need to be compiled every time, saving on power consumption too. If you can use it, you should.

There's taking a photo or a short video or there's the new trend for everyone to think they're a paid photo journalist and take hundreds of photos all night, or want to film the whole thing to upload on YouTube (and then wonder why it's removed due to a copyright claim!).

I think we all know the difference. And I did follow up by pointing out that some phones are better than others are recording audio in loud environments.

if making an app open a split second here and a split second there is going to change your life then good on you fella, it wont actually make the app run faster, its a runtime not a processor overclocking magician, personally i prefer the extra storage space.

You say it isn't that much quicker, but it is still quicker, and even more so for slower devices like the Moto G. To me it's worth it, especially as it will eventually be the default.

The saving on battery and time comes on launching apps. playing a 3 hour video on a loop is a ridiculous test.

art is faster and soon to be the default. and that is reason enough for me.

I've tried both, I totally disagree with you, can you prove it is much faster please because I fail to see how it could be much quicker than it already is.

As I said, we have 2 in the house and I did one art and one Davlik. The art one was much faster opening apps and loading times were faster. Battery life is also better.

I don't think anyone has ever suggested it is a magician. What it is, is faster. I also never suggested it would change my life. I simply said it was faster, which it is.

I've had an Nexus 5 for 4 months , and can honestly say i've had nothing but problems.

Signal drop outs across the board on Wifi, 3G ,4G, and screen freezing everyday .

Ive been using the ART for a few months now on the N5. It seems pretty rock solid stable.

It doesn't magically double the speed of the phone but it is most certainly noticeably real world quicker with better battery.

It is clearly a better architecture and will get optimised even more in time. The JIT nature of Dalvik is a very unnecessary bottle neck for a modern smartphone.

More and more applications will get optimised for ART in the future and it will become the default way of running Android apps.
