Just curious but what about it makes you find it the worst? I personally think the production is easily the strongest of all three versions.
Nothing wrong with the production, but thought the vocals were the weakest.

In the chorus, he sings "I am human and I need to beeee loved" and thought the emphasis on the word "be" was a bit odd.

I gave it a listen too, as a curious Smiths fan, and found that strange as well. Not keen, personally.

As much as I enjoy the original NIN version, I much prefer Johnny Cash's version of Hurt.

Always liked Dave Stewart & Barbara Gaskin's cover of It's My Party.

Liberty X - Being Nobody
hmm.... strictly speaking though that wasnt a cover, it was a mash up or marriage of two seperate songs.

i like it very much, but still prefer the human leagues 'being boiled'.

That is totally subjective. Some considered a screaming wailing dismantling of a beautiful song.
well youll get no argument from me on that... i cant stand leonas destruction of it either.

Madness - It Must Be Love
It suited Madness so well and they made it more musically catchy.
.
disagree. labi sifres original was a beautiful little ditty, gentle, warm, soulful.

i like madness, i dont mind their version, but its just a joked up poppy cover of a song that has soul.

Wouldn't say it's better than the original but Amy McDonald's version of Dancing in the Dark is beautiful.

I think Hallelujah might be the most covered song around.
That would be 'Yesterday'

I think Alexandra Burke's version of Hallelujah and Leona Lewis' version of Run are better than the original versions in my view.

I also think a few of the songs they performed on The X Factor surpassed the originals.
More like the worst versions imo.

The ultimate cover that's better, and not just musically: My Baby Just Cares for Me

Eddie Cantor's signature version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D-EXfxLitAo

Nina Simone's cover: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eYSbUOoq4Vg

and of course Otway & Barrett's legendary OGWT cover of Bob Lind's "Cheryl's Going Home"

Something I always go to when I need cheering up. For those who are not familiar, do watch to the end

Not sure I'd go so far as to say it's better, but Lulu's The Man Who Sold The World is, for me, at least as good as Bowie's. It's nothing like you'd imagine from the woman who's probably best known for Shout and winning the Eurovision Song Contest.

Jimmy Webb - Galveston (if a song recorded by the writer, but popularised by someone else, can be considered a cover).

its a shame that lulu is remembered for 'shout' and 'boom bang a bang', she sang some excellant tracks in the 60's, - to sir with love, the boat that i row, me the peaceful heart, leave a little love... and more.

galveston... glen campbell had the hit with it.

I love the way he sings be I think it brings the lyrics to life so much more.

Don't diss "Shout", that was a cover of the Isley Brothers. Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band have been playing it in the encores on the recent tour. It's a good live party song.

I'm no fan of Lulu's version, mind. Voice like a foghorn

God, this thread title comes up again and again. And for what it's worth Leona's "Run" and Burke's "Hallelujah" are cack of the highest order (in my opinion of course).

Besides, everyone knows the greatest ever cover is "Song to the Siren" by This Mortal Coil.

Or maybe The Byrds' "Mr Tambourine Man".
