Hi,

Hoping someone can help with this!

About a week ago I restricted most of the apps that require a data connection on my S4 to only run when on wifi. I left Gmail, Outlook, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Met Office, BBC News and Chrome as unrestricted, as I use these regularly.

Most important of these is Gmail, as it's now my primary email account and the one that folk use to contact me during the day about e.g. Charity events I'm involved with, etc.

However, it's no longer pushing emails; the only way I know if I have a new email is if I go into the app and manually sync the emails.

I know it's not my Gmail account, as it still pushes to my iPad. I know it's not my connection, because I still get push notifications from Outlook and Facebook.

Any ideas what it could be? Might it be a background app that has been restricted? Tried resetting all apps to unrestricted, tried uninstalling and reinstalling Gmail, tried turning on and off sync on my phone - nothing!

Alternatively - can anyone suggest a good alternative app?

Thanks!

Go into apps, 'running apps', click Google services and see if the GcmService is running.

I manually stop things I do not need and it is a common error to stop the wrong thing.

Turns out I had the whole of 'Google Services' set as 'restricted' so I've changed that. This one is listed as covering Google Contacts Sync, Play services, Backup Transport, Services Framework and Account Manager

I didn't see a specific GcmService listed anywhere that I could find, but hopefully this'll sort it.

Thanks

On mine I have 2 entities of 'Google Services'.
Google services starts a 2nd Google services to then run GCM service.

Anyway, maybe you fixed it already so ignore.
